I forgot we were playing today

In my late 20s mate, basically the same for me. I remember being close to tears when Terry was going up to take that penalty in Moscow. Now, completely different, I am upset on the day but it hardly bothers me during the week. I suppose, I just have way more responsibilities now, can't see myself being down a whole week for a football game

Sounds like it's just a thing that happens when we get old then

Age is a part of it, along with the state of our football. You can't underestimate how bad we have been to wathch since Fergie left.

If like most fans you only watch your own team, it's going to skew your judgement.

Think that's fair, I've never been a huge watcher of other teams (except the big games) so that makes sense.

I agree Busby. I also think due to social media i care less now. You have the likes of Lingard dancing inside their 250k after a draw. I have nothing against this by the way, but why should i be miserable when these players are doing this during their week.

Indifference has set in for.me
Thanks to mouriho
Its not my number of gray hairs now than before but the pedestrian football

Shouldn’t really be about the state of the football.

There was a United before SAF and there were many many fallow years in which fans stood by

We live in a new world now - one where instant gratification is king so of course today’s generation will find other things to occupy ones time rather than have the same obsession we all had as kids

We almost always played attacking football mind, and we are talking about a generation who grew up on Fergie, so the state of football is a factor.

There were many crap years and you may not remember but in the early days of SAF it wasn’t far off this.

If today’s generation were spoilt by what SAF later did and can’t stand by now then it says more about them than anything else. You’re either a fan of a football club for life good or bad or not at all

Nobb completely missing the point as expected to defend the football

Spoilt yes, but why can't Jose (or previous managers) get performances like today out of the team on a regular basis?

Some people enjoy football because of the entertainment value, which has lacked at the club.

I’m talking more to Busby

As to your point I agree it’s harder to get as passionate as we were as kids as life gets in the way

The Moyes season I was still the same, lost a bit of hair during that season, ha. LVG I became calm. Mourinho I just expected this. Maybe if we are in a title race, these feelings will come back OP.

Taking my article aside, why should people support a club no matter what? I personally will always support united even if my interest dwindles. However if someone else wants to stop watching games because they aren't entertained anymore it doesn't bother me.

OP, get rid of this cretin Nobb. This is the same man that was asking for LVG's head daily, and he has the audacity to talk about patience.

If someone doesn’t want to watch games because they feel they’re not entertained then it’s the height of a spoilt fan. No one has to watch every game - things happen, we all have commitments. But if someone has the opportunity to watch the game but is scared they’ll be bored then all I can say is welcome to the real world of football supporting

I don't get that attitude. Football is the entertainment business. If I watched 3 films in a series that were awful and a fourth came out, I wouldn't go to see it and get called spoilt for it. The principle stands for me.

Anyway let's agree to disagree

Yeah, no worries. Everyone is different. I just don’t get people choosing to not watch a game just because they fear it won’t be entertaining. Sport can be entertainment but it can also be two teams cancelling each other out and being attritional. It’s unpredictable and something that as a supporter you have to take the good with the bad

Fair enough. Guess it's up to individuals how they chose to spend their free time

Growing up in the Fergie era must have been special, but that was a once-in-a-lifetime deal, never to happen again. Add the fact that after all the schooling and moving onto your own life outside of parent's influence, something like football no longer is desperately important. This is perfectly normal and it's always possible to get back the old flame. I took off a decade from following football when I was a touring musician, because that demanded my undivided attention. Now I'm able to spend a few hours a week to watch, read and listen. Worry not.

I suspect it is partly getting old and partly the terrible football. Have you got kids? They have been the biggest game changer for me.

I still think about them, read the articles and watch when I can, I will always be a supporter.
But, I find it hard to forgive a manager who doesn't try to win a game, aka Liverpool last season, but I will always forgive them if we try to win but lose. Still my club though.
