Dave uses his feet to stop shots more than most keepers. He's made some incredible ones for us doing this.

I am a professional goalkeeper for an unnamed club. When I am faced with a shot, I consciously try and move my feet out of the way of the ball if it is going in. And try and get my hand down there instead. I see the ball coming towards me and I think about the social connotations of using my feet instead of my hands. I think, what does this say about me if I use my feet? I stop to consider examples of keepers who use their feet, Neuer, Ter Stegen, Allison, Ederson, they all seem like they may enjoy the company of other males. I pause. I think, am I overthinking this? I’m not. I don’t think. But why am I thinking about it so much then? This should be natural for me. I am a keeper. But what’s even natural? I resume my duty of considering which part of the body to save the ball with. What if no one sees me in the gay club? Does that still make me gay if no one else knows? The ball edges closer. What if I just really like the guy’s personality, could we just be really, really good friends? Maybe I don’t need a girlfriend as the guy could be everything she is not? I decide that I should have a girlfriend as a sort of front, but then see the guy behind her back, so I go for the ball with my hand, but it goes in anyway.

When I play 5 a side I always try and save with my feet than dive. No way am I getting down for those shots in time. Quicker by feet.

In real football only issue with feet is where the ball ends up because if you save with hands you have more control even if you parry it but with feet I’m not so sure.

Can we stay on topic please. This is quite an important subject and absolutely no place for your jokes.

De Gea is a great example of being good at what I'm talking about. I think Keepers sometimes forget that keeping the ball out of the net is the be all and end all. Lloris' attempt at saving Alonso's shot was just ridiculous. He literally could have controlled the ball with his foot.

Agreed.

Keepers do regularly do this though, Lloris is just shiyte though and has been overrated for a long time by Spurs fans.

Keepers do use their feet fairly often, it just doesn’t get highlighted as much when they do because it’s not seen to be spectacular.

I'm starting my FA Level 1 in coaching Goalkeepers course soon, I'm a keen believer in goalkeepers playing the sweeper role, in training games we put keepers outfield so they're comfortable with the ball.

Gazzaniga last night for the Son goal played a lovely ball in, you can see him shout as he released the ball.

Seriously dude?

A world class winner? I suppose you have another world class winner who is playing for us who you suggest to play instead of Hugo?

But instead of just swinging a boot at it, he tried to dive down almost on top of himself, and inevitably by the time he hits the ground, the ball has squeezed under his body and gone in. He literally could've just stood there like a statue and the ball wouldv'e hit him and not gone in.

=============

It's safer to grab the ball in the moment than try to hit and if say the ball bobbles, then if you are trying to kick it, chances are the bounce of the ball will beat you?
Much safer to go down and put your body behind it and try to get the ball

It happened so many time when the keeper goes for straight leg save and the ball bounces and the poor keeper is left with eggs on his face.

If in doubt, put your body behind the ball and grab it.

My imo.
