didnt Arsenal lose the charity shield to utd in the unbeatables season.
Yes it’s recognised as a competitive fixture by Fifa and the FA. They are kind of a big deal when deciding what constitutes a competitive fixture, you know as governing bodies of the sport.
2018-19: A 4-0 rout of Shkëndija boded well going into the playoffs, but Salzburg choked once again at a crucial moment in their tie. 2-0 up at home with 25 minutes plus added time left against Red Star Belgrade, Salzburg were stunned by two goals in two minutes from Comorian striker Ben, and despite their best efforts they lost on away goals once again.
Salzburg
They did indeed, but technically the untouchables moniker referred to the PL.
There's tons of examples to suit the need for it's relevance when it's convenient. Mourinho winning a 'treble' in his first United season is another one, he's just a good as Fergie clearly

Last season spurs won a game 2-2 and now chelsea fans are trying to convince us that Salzburg lost a game 2-2.

I bet the European Super Cup wasn't an official game in his eyes this time last year
I dunno what all the fuss about City was for last season? They weren't even in the Charity Shield

If a tree falls in the woods and no-one's around, does it make a sound?
If the Charity Shield is a competitive game, but nobody treats it like one unless to suit an agenda, is it really competitive?
It's incredibly subjective
Are there lots of competitive fixtures where you can make more than 3 subs?

The World cup.
Champions league
Europa league
Carabao cup
Just off the top of my head...
It’s really not subjective. The FA, the organising body, categorises it as a competitive fixture. Whether it is important is another debate. I don’t know how people can even argue against this.

Merely asking questions, it's up to you to infer whatever you like
It’s really not subjective. The FA, the organising body, categorises it as a competitive fixture. Whether it is important is another debate. I don’t know how people can even argue against this.
--------------------------------------------------------------
How many in game rules of the FA's rely on the subjective opinions of the referee? By having a retrospective appeal policy all their own rules are subject to debate by a few people in a boardroom.
The Charity Shield's capacity as an official game is only as strong as them deciding one day it's not deemed important enough to stage anymore, which (if that happened) would be based on widespread subjective opinion that it's not a competitive fixture.
It's a subjective argument because in this case the source has no credibility.
