Dave, I reckon my gender liquid would be the only thing sticking around in that case.

Think I'd prefer the piano. It really struck a chord with me.

Fully warranted.

I was Baching up the wrong tree with that bad pun.

Don’t make me come over there and give you a Haydn

How many of us will be around to see those developments though, Dave?

I mean, granted it's all very interesting, but won't be of much use to me when I'm in a casket.

Scruttocks, check out the TED talk I linked earlier. Pre-programmed cell death is linked to telomere shortening. It's kind of like a built in mechanism to our DNA that prevents cells from undergoing mitotic division indefinitely - ageing. It is a way the body prevents cancers and all sorts of other conditions.

We can already stop the ageing process but not without creating secondary problems. Still a few kinks to work out yet. It's fascinating.

Yes that's exactly what I meant! Will check out the link

I understand the continued mutations up cancer risks etc as they go on but I can see that being almost entirely migated one way or another in the not so distant future.

Have to echo the thoughts of a previous poster in that the last thing we need is to further extend human life. 1 billion people is at least 900m too many IMO

The transition to amortality will more likely be underpinned by advances in computer science than by advances in genetic engineering.

Why commit the vast resources required to progress the requisite technology to fruition to the solution that still leaves humanity dependent on inefficient, weak and fallible biological structures?

IOAG,

Fair points on the telomere shortening issue. I doubt that we can sort that out in our generation.

The CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing complex will be in use in human personalised medical treatment within 10 years for sure.

I cannot say for certain, but having read some unpublished work coming out of a few Chinese laboratories, I'm quite confident that it is already being used in human subjects across a number of medical fields.

Cell pluripotency and CRISPR will benefit you or someone you know before you meet that Bengal tiger.

I know someone who works in this field.

"I'm quite confident that it is already being used in human subjects across a number of medical fields."

You are 100% correct in that, but I probably cant say much more.

Lack of Mothercares didn't stop us in the Stone Age.

Mothercare was founded in 1961. There is evidence of humans going back to at least 1902.

You were doing so well then Rap. Thought you had the argument won, only for it to be snatched away at the last second.
