Bougherra and Weir

To suggest Bocanegra is better than Bougherra is nonsense, Bougherra was a key player and for all his rampaging runs very few times was he at fault for conceding a goal. Bocanegra has so far made two mistakes and cost us two goals one at the weekend and one in Europe.

Weir's fcuked.

Considering his excellent contribution over the past few seasons, I don't want to witness a sad ending to Davie Weir's career at Rangers. On the other hand we have unearthed two/three very capable, and cheaply sourced, replacements in Goian, Bocanegra, and Bartley. We cannot afford to be too sentimental and risk weakening the team to accommodate Weir. I hope Ally and his coaching staff can find a solution which benefits the team, yet respects Weir's achievements. Some sort of defensive coaching role would seem a possibility (considering Ally's attacker's knowledge, likewise Durrant's in midfield) but would Weir still want to remain up here on that basis when all his family are still down south?

Bocanegra and Goian should be first choice.

Our 2 best signings this season.

Weir should be 3rd choice.

4th choice even for Weir, forgot we even had Bartley.

I'd like to see Bartley given a game at right back and centre mid.

davie weir should be kept to mentor young perry and should only be used in emergencies, great servant but i think as the OP has stated, Goian and Bocanegra are better not to mention we have Bartley and the aforemention Perry

When fit, Davie will be used for cup games and Celtic.

Bocanegra has looked good so far. He was very good on Sunday. I don't think we are looking like we're missing Boogie.

ffs! are you walter smith

You may be right Zico. A 41 yr old footballer with a dodgy hamstring is akin to a 90 yr old with a broken hip.

For once though I am not too worried. We have Goian (who was immense for me on Sunday, never put a foot wrong) and Bocanegra (at fault for the equaliser but other than that solid enough) with Perry as back up. Should we need to we also have Papac, Broadfoot, Wallace and when back Bartley who can play centre back if required.

That's before we even think about McCulloch again. At the back I am vey happy with our squad and think that we have plenty of cover for the season even if Weir calls it a day.

In his time at Rangers Weir has been everything you would expect from a model Rangers player but time waits for no man. Has to go into coaching or management, football needs more like him.

Read what I wrote again my friend. I never said Bocanegra is a better player. I said I think the team is better off without Bougherra.

Do we really want a centre back that thinks hes a winger? Having Bougherra in the team always meant there had to be a centre midfield player stationed just in front of the defence just in case Bougherra went AWOL.

I am happy with a centre back who is focussed on defending first and foremost. Bocanegra is and I was never convinced Bougherra was.

Yes he played Hooper onside on sunday. Not sure I would really lay sole blame at his feet for the goal though. You have to remember hes still relatively new and the understanding of the back 4 as a unit will improve. This will help cut out issues around offside.

Its about opinions. Bougherra was entertaining but he also caused panic. I just think we looked more solid at tha back on sunday than we have for a long time.

Davies book is out, it's called extra time and imo was a great read especially the unorthodox way he became a professional playing in the states and his honesty

I dont believe thats true tbh.

I think he will rotate Weir in to give other guys rest but for the big games I think it will be Goian and Boca or Bartley.

McCoist clearly isnt playing favourites. McCulloch was fit for sunday but didnt start. If Ally was sticking by the old brigade McCulloch would have started.
