People are even speaking about it today. You may have noticed.

It's mentioned every know and then but people don't typically immediately think of the incidient with Beckham when they think of Sir Alex do they. It's not the same as it is today when, if this happened, countless posts would be made on social media, pundits on every sports channel would be discussing this over and over again, everyone would be demanding a public apology by Sir Alex (at least) etc. etc.

Of course it would be reported as a story at the time but it never long term damaged Sir Alex's reputation like it would if it happened today where the story would be shared and highlighted constantly and so much more attention would be drawn to it.

I'm not saying that Sir Alex completely got away with it, but he got off lighter than he would have done had the same thing happened today.
