Not saying that we are any of those things, but surely you’re being premature as well then...?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He is not claiming anything though. Just pointing out that labeling City best PL team ever is a bit early considering.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think you’d be hard pressed to find anyone who doesn’t agree that they can’t be considered the best team as compared to teams who’ve won doubles, or more, over a number of years. But City could yet still do that. Was there 17/18 team, over a season, one of the best teams in PL history? Of course.

They had a phenomenal season. Best ever you’re having a laugh. Teams have juggled the premier league and champions league and won it same season. 100 point or not, that is the benchmark for me
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Just so I'm clear, the best Prem side is not the best Prem aide unless you do well in another competition?

City's team last year was the best in the premiership ever
-----------
the fact we finished 2nd shows how weak the league was last year, yes it was a great achievement but I would favour any of the utd-arsenal teams fighting it out between 1997-2004 against this city lot, again personal opinions and all that

posted on 26/12/18

well surely the arsenal team should be the best then, no one could beat them

It's a good debate, yes.

City's team last year was the best in the premiership ever

Then followed by the side jose inherited from Ranieri

Then United 2008-09
----------------------------------------------------------------------

United 99 didn't happen then? We may not have got 100pts but we were juggling the 3 biggest tournaments all the way till May....and won them all. And Arsenal were a phenomenal team too who we were up against let's not forget.

Utd 99 is the greatest team this league has ever seen. Not only did we do do the treble, we then went on to win the next 2 PL titles too.

Nah

But City got more points and so would’ve finished above them..(hypothetically) despite losing. See what you mean though, just arbitrary in how you define best team. Most points (City) AND unbeaten in a single season (Arsenal) would be the gold standard.

The premiership was really poor in the 90s through mid 00s

I've watched a few matches from that period recently and the quality is just embarassing

Late 00s the quality was quite high and we had contenders for the top sides in Europe, before that we were miles back

You were humiliated in the final of the CL. It was completely lopsided in quality and it's a miracle you weren't behind by triple the goals going into the final minutes. Freak results happen sometimes.

You’re wrong but let’s just say you’re right, the United side of 07/08 was immense. Won the title, won the CL, won the title three times in a row and made 3 CL finals in 4 seasons

I was split between the 07/08 side and 08/09

It's tight

That was an excellent patch with a lot of top class players

Article closed for me.

The fact the team got mentioned amongst the pantheon; and this reaction - it says a lot.

In other news, Solskjaer’s United to be the best Prem team ever after scoring 8 goals in their first two? Ever happened before?

unless your watching the top 4-5 teams now and in most leagues the quality is not going to be as good, that's not a news flash

The United and Arsenal sides of the 90’s and early 00’s didn’t have anywhere near the consistency that City had last season.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

But they didn’t have the squad depth and level of competition that the 90s side’s had so it’s all relative

City didn’t have a side pushing them all the way in the way Arsenal and United had with each other

City now do and the pressure is getting to them

maybe because they were usually fighting for winning multiple trophies every year, there's a reason why treble(only once) and doubles(very few of them)are so rare

I was a begrudging respect fan of Stam but the United sides with Rio were just a cut above

I was thinking the other day your signing of VVD was Cantona-Esque as he seems to be the missing piece of the puzzle

Every bit as important to you as Stam or Rio is to us

City didn’t have the squad depth? There was more competition because it wasn’t that often there was a side with ridiculous consistency. Arsenal’s unbeaten team and our 2000 team were the only ones that really did.

And we dropped most of out points in the treble season at the beginning of the year. Playing in multiple competitions didn’t actually affect us in the league that much. We were slow starters.

speaking of vans, VdS was at least as good as Schmeichel for me

both excellent keepers

In the treble season we used a very small pool of players

Ok I got you. That doesn’t really help your argument when judging a team across a league season, though. Football is a squad game. Which is why City managed to attain the points they did. And why United in the 90’s weren’t able to get near that. It was more a first 11 game back then. The standards of fitness were nowhere near as high.
