We almost certainly won’t make top 4 without some signings. The squad just doesn’t have enough quality. Defence needs addressing soon as possible
Only thing being overlooked is that OZIL IS A USELESS IN THE PL CAAAANT.
Results were just fine until his lazy ass came back into the side!
I said before this season if we finish close to top 4 we’ve done well. The squad lacks a lot of quality so to keep it within touching distance of 4th is decent progress from last year. There’s been improvements but there’s still a long way to go. Which is surely what we all expected from getting a new manager. We need a few windows before we can start thinking about making big strides in league and cups
And for goodness sakes, a midfield 3 of Xhaka, Torreira and Gwen against the smaller teams in the league is simply ridiculous. The problems they present are obvious. They occupy the same zones and get in each other's way and offer little dynamism or movement to unbalance the opposition. It's incredibly easy to defend against. You need one (or even two) of those players to be able to constantly break forward to support the attack: something none of the 3 seem to do and end up hogging the ball with zero threat. Why are we still persisting with this nonsense when Ramsey is on the bench? Yes, Ramsey was crap when he came on - which I'd argue is partly attributable to getting frozen out of the team.
Even if you don't play Ramsey, why not play Iwobi wide and shift Ozil into his no.10 spot behind the front 3? Why are these seemingly "obvious" things being over-complicated by Emery?
After drawing an away game? The game we actually lost last season?
Good lord. We just need to hang about near the top 4. And then push after Feb! Thats how its always been when we were successful.
More than anything our squad shows how bad Wenger's signings were for the last few years!
You can't have it both ways Emery is trying instill some discipline into the team if you don't play well you are subbed off. We have had far too many years where the majority of team starts no matter what. We can't have 300 grand a week footballers picking and choosing when they play or can be bothered to perform.
This isn't Emery's team it's a work in progress he needs two more windows before we can say it's his team.

Did you expect to get top 4 this year though? Every should be in it for the long haul and should be backed. One summer isn't enough to get his squad together.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I didn't expect top 4. I certaily expect us to compete for it though. I certainly agree Emery was dealt a bad hand with the squad he inherited, which is a mess, but he has compounded the problems with his overcomplicating things that are actually a lot simpler than he makes them out to be.

Yeah, let's measure our progress by gaining an extra point in a fixture with Brighton.
We are losing ground to our top 4 rivals. Taking solace from drawing a game we should be winning against Brighton would be ridiculous.

A lot of our second half success earlier in the season was because we had the likes Welbeck and Mikhi on the bench.
What do you expect?
At the moment I can see Emery is trying to keep Laca and Auba fit. An injury to either will be a disaster.
My only criticism of Emerry right now is that he needs to start using the youth squad. Trust them a bit more. But I can understand that any new manager not sure of his job will trust the experienced players more even when they are not his signings.
Arsenal were always going to need implosions to stand a chance of top 4, that squad is full of deadwood that needs clearing.
It's pretty obvious that Arsenal need to spend on the defence as it is mediocre at best.

No. Its a reflection that we are better away from home now. Thats where we lost the Champions League position last season.
Dude calm down, it takes time to overhaul a squad that's paperthin in quality and depth. You should know by now that we don't have the luxury to play our core players every match and risking injuries / draining them mentally. The squad players need to step up their game and I don't even blame them. Elneny, Ramsey, Iwobi are not good enough yet or will never be at a consistent level to rely on.
I'm just disappointed that now that we have 2 top strikers our midfield and defence are falling apart (and we still have the issue with injuries to key players, not so sure it was just wengers old fashioned training methods now)
This has to be one of the worst squad Arsenal has had in a long time... and under the circumstances whatever Emery has achieved has been beyond expectations.
Considering how wel his new signings have done the club needs to put money where it’s mouth is and back him up in transfer window

We are joint 4th as it stands which is where we want to be at this stage of Emery's reign the teams above us have established managers with better squads than us. We have got to be realistic with the squad we have at the moment that's the best we are gonna be right now.
Absolutely dreadful performance, not just today, but for the last few. We made a diabolical Burnley team look like a half competent team on Saturday. On this form, we just need to get Anfield out of the way.

Wow, you're criticising Ramsey, whom has arguably been responsible for alot of wins that would have been draws, yet neglected to mention Ozil. A BIG part of why we've dropped the recent points we have.
I suppose you think selling Ramsey whilst keeping the lazy caant who bottles every challenge, is a good idea and all.

And it needs to sell/release/bench from PL games, one Mesut Ozil. I don't actually think the players exist to buy and play the correct combination, with him in the mf and contend for the PL. He is the most pathetic example of defence in attack we have seen in this league (for this many seasons). He is also beyond compensating for. The 9 other outfield players are kept to busy in the PL, to have to compensate for another player, as much as they have to compensate for Ozil.
We CANNOT win the PL with him starting games with any regularity.

Check starting lineup for recent draws and losses. Only one glaringly obvious difference. That strangely enough, nobody seems to want to acknowledge. To the point you all seem to be blaming any and everything but the waste of space the club is pay well over a quarter mil a week to pee points down the drain.
Ozil is ok at home. in away games we actually missed mkhi. which is not saying much. we need reinforcements up front to link auba and laca for sure.

My point exactly. Wasn't playing the greatest but was coping, mostly due to every single player on the pitch busting his ass. The second we drop Ozil in, you get the straw that breaks the camels back.
They can't get by in a managers first season, with a weaker squad AND carry Ozil. It is no accident his return to the starting lineup, saw our luck run out. As I said in another post. Playing Ozil (over this period especially) will prove to be Emerys most telling mistake of the season.
With a bit of luck he's seen enough to realise he's never going to get the required for the PL, from Ozil and will sell him and buy someone decent in the window. Or as I said, just keep the lazy bottle job fecker away from PL games.
