Agreed, we haven’t found the right strike partner for him since Okazaki who is well past it. It has to be said though that Vardy is unfortunately starting a slow but inevitable decline. He’s 31, he’s picking up injuries. Why we chose to give him a massive 5 year contract recently is absolutely beyond me - he was halfway through his existing one
In the longer term a replacement will need to be found- and if we get that one wrong then we’ll struggle to survive in this division
Aswell as this needed strike partner we also need another offensive midfielder. We don't need 2 defensive midfielders on the pitch nearly every game.
Either convert one of them to be attack minded or get someone in. Could Silva do the job? Has he got enough steel about him?
I think more generally, in order to think about making the ‘step up’ to the next stage in our PL journey we need to be looking to purchase at least some players who are experienced at PL level and in their prime. This has been something we have never really done and is probably something we should be looking at doing but that, of course, is easier said than done.
Agree with all of the above.
KTF1,
I was just musing over the same thing you’ve just mentioned on the drive home tonight. We are reliant on a lot of our quality coming from players who will probably get there, but aren’t quite there yet. Greater considstency comes with experience: Chillwell, Maguire, Soyuncu, Ndidi and Maddison are all players who have the capacity to be great, but are still young, developing and inconsistent.
Then we have players like Gray and Ian who look more like long shots at the moment.
Investment in youth is great, but it would be great to have one or two players who can really dictate a game when the going gets a little tough.
Someone like Mitrovic would be ideal, good target man, technical and aggressive. Vardy always prefers playing in the left channel, so a 3 man front line with a target man, Vardy left and Gray, Maddison, Barnes, whoever on the right could work well.
Most of the top teams are playing 433, I think the left of a front 3 will be Vardys best position over the next few years
Yeah I agree. Let’s bring in a striker who can help our best player be average again rather than useless.
Or here’s an idea. Why don’t we just play to at least one of our player’s strengths. Let’s not make that player Gray.
