FIFA 97. You can shoot from any angle and you will always hit the target. Stand in front of the keeper and you can nick the ball of him and score. You only needed to press one button unlike now where it is too complicated.

Both teams playing a rigid 2-1 formation. Makes for a fascinating tactical encounter.
FIFA 03 or 04 on PS1, can’t quite remember which. Or might’ve even been PES. My first game I can actually remember playing and getting into was FIFA 05, liked it so much I played it for the next 3 years.
cant remember the games name, but it had one camera angle from above showing the top of the players heads, when you were shooting towards the goal going down on a vertical pitch you would always score a shot from the edge of the box but the same tactic never worked when shooting towards the other goal going up, almost impossible to score!
I've owned every Fifa since the very first one came out.
I had a game on the old Amstrad but can't remember the name of it now.
Fifa 99, although I preferred dirty tackling off the ball and sliding the keeper over playing the game properly.
Fifa 98. You could run away from the referee if he was trying to give you a yellow card. Amazing game.

Sounds a bit like world cup italia 90 on the mega drive. but there were other games like the one you've described.
It might not have been my first one, but I remember playing champions league 2000 on the PS1. If you shot from kick off the goalie would pick the ball behind the line
Football manager 2 on the Commodore 64, lost days to this game.

I was thinking the very same game. That was the first football game I played. Played it just a few years ago and found it really tough, players move at a snail’s pace.
Remember FIFA95 and the easiest way to score would be from an angle, whereas it was really difficult to score straight on.
