I guess one question would be where Mata and Lingard would be left and who'd we'd balance the LHS with in such a case. I guess Lingard or Sanchez could play off the left, effectively doing the same as Lingard does on the right now?

We may in the future have to imagine a team that doesn't have either of them in it as often.
We don't always have to play with one wide man who hugs the touchline and one who operates inside.
That being said however I do like having Lingard in the team because like yourself I value his movement a lot. It's better than anyone else's in the squad.

I wonder how much of Pogba's value you'd lose and how valuable Herrera would be effectively performing Pogba's current role. Or could you switch the two?

Stretching the pitch and creating more space for Pogba to work in could benefit him greatly.

On that last point, it might well. In giving him, potentially, more space on the ball and time to create, and certainly more options in terms of spaces to play the ball into.

Yeah definitely. Worth noting that Martial and Rashford have looked threatening when drifting out to the right under Ole, even though it’s not been there starting position. Ole’s spoken of Rashford playing on the left, right and centre due to Lukaku’s presence in the squad, so we may have some solutions already in the squad, even if both players haven’t looked as comfortable on that side as through the middle or on the left.
I’d be happy with both having some game time there to develop as players. I’m not of the opinion that young players will just suffer from playing in unfamiliar positions, or ones that they are not as comfortable in, providing that it’s for development purposes rather than just a means to an end.
Look at someone like Mane at Liverpool. Part of what makes him so dangerous is his ability all across the field. When you add Firmino and Salah into the equation it makes it nightmare to defend against as they aren’t limited to one area of the pitch.
City and Spurs attack with this positional freedom and comfort as well.
We’ve been doing it to an extent under Ole with the front three, which bodes well.

This all depends on the next coach anyway. We could end up with one that plays 352 or 343 and it significantly changes things, especially in regard to Pogba.
Or even still if Ole gets the job I don’t think we know enough about his preferred tactical set ups, if he has any, as nobody has followed his career closely enough with Molde, and even still he’d likely have been limited in the calibre and type of players he could bring in due to their standing as a club.
What I would say is that I’d be fascinated to see what Pochettino would do with Pogba. He has so many attributes - albeit lacking in consistency and application with them - many of which are coachable and can be maximised under the right framework in the team.
I do think a lot of the issues are mental with Pogba, which aren’t as easy to coach, but he’s the one player I could see Pochettino having the biggest impact on in the squad.

Critically though, he has shown he can do it for France and Juventus.
Unless he's playing in front of two deep-lying midfielders in a more advanced role as he has done on occasion recently, he should be tasked with having to help defend.
There's no getting away from defending if you're playing in a three man midfield. You can get away with it against sides you should be beating with relative ease but not against the top sides who can dominate the midfield.
Or even still if Ole gets the job I don’t think we know enough about his preferred tactical set ups, if he has any, as nobody has followed his career closely enough with Molde, and even still he’d likely have been limited in the calibre and type of players he could bring in due to their standing as a club.

I did a little bit of reading up on Ole when he got the job and he was quite flexible in terms of tactics and he's used a number of different systems during his time at Molde but generally favoured 4-3-3 there.
If we can look back on the 2nd half of this season positively, I'd have no objection to Ole taking the job if we can't get Pochettino who's as ideal a candidate for what I think this squad needs as we're going to find.
On the subject of the right flank, Claudio Ranieri has apparently said TFM isn't wanted at Fulham and can return to United now.

On the subject of the right flank, Claudio Ranieri has apparently said TFM isn't wanted at Fulham and can return to United now.

We should really bring him back.

Apparently they are signing Gary Cahill on loan and already had 2 permitted loan players (TFM and Calum Chambers) from PL clubs.
So they've binned TFM.
TRS, but then did it go into detail about the profile of the players used or favoured? These are details we don’t really know and they become important when assessing the squad and future signings.
Though I suppose it’s worth noting it’s the case for coaches whose profiles we do know in more detail. Because many coaches are limited by their club in terms of the profile of player they can sign.
It’s only really Pep we can make solid conclusions about in this regard, due the teams he’s coached, but even then I’d say he’s been less idealistic about the type of players he wants at City given what he inherited.
Considering this it makes it harder for the forward planning of the club, and why it’s been folly to rely so much on the preference of the managers when it comes to players (sprinkled in with a bit of Woodward).
The side a playing better under Ole, but I still think because of the latter we are still lacking massively in quality and have an unbalanced squad of players.

No I don't seem to remember the article I read going into much deeper detail, it just said he experimented quite a bit with systems and that more often than not preferred 4-3-3 and during one season in particular 4-4-2.
So they've binned TFM.

There hasn't been any confirmation of this yet from either club. Maybe if/when Cahill signs, we'll find out.
