Lukaku: Ole has helped my game

Bit early to be pinning hopes on Greenwood as a backup striker, he’s not been long in the under 23’s and doesn’t look physically developed enough yet, which isn’t surprising given he’s not long been 17.

If Lukaku were sold and we were comitted to Rashford in the main striker role we’d still have other options there for rotation in Sanchez and Martial.

We need a right winger anyway, so sacrificing Lukaku for one that scores goals wouldn’t be a bad decision.

Bale would be ideal, but I don’t even think we are stupid enough to touch him with a barge pole now.

Bale would not be ideal. He is 30 and injury prone.

Aye that was the point I was alluding to when I said we wouldn’t touch him with a barge pole.

...............

I have given up pinning hopes on our youngsters now as it is such a fine margin as to whether some of them will make it or not.

I like the look of Chong but he has to make the most of any cameos he gets, which wasn't the case Saturday.

It would have a touch if Sanchez about it and Real will want to make their money back if we came in. They've been a holes since the fax incident

Pretty sure he is on the physio table again.

Rashford is better than Lukaku. Lukaku is too limited. He's best as a sub coming on. We've had Hernandez, who was the same. Great finisher but poor all round striker.

If Lukaku doesn't mind being a sub, keep him. Otherwise best for all parties if he's sold in the summer.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

We'd be better off Sighing Hernandez back for a small amount of money and selling Lukaku if that's what we want.

A 75 million tap in merchant sitting on the bench isn't a good idea. We can still get 40 mill for him I think.
-------------------

It is a shame that Haland already agreed to join Salzburg before Ole came in, as he would have been an interesting option. Mason Greenwood is coming through too, so maybe he would be a good option from the bench?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

If Solskjaer is manager, wouldn't be surprised to see someone like Josh King arrive. Mobile, can play across the front line, been managed by Solskjaer previously. Would accept being a rotation option.

Top goals and assists in 2018 in top 5 leagues:

Lukaku is 13th out of 50.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Do these lists mean anything?

Aguero is 17th and we both know who everybody would want out of the two strikers.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What does it mean to you? Interpret it how you wish. To me it is impressive and a bit surprising he’s so high. Literally no one is going to disagree with you and think that that’s what the list is suggesting.

VC, yeah it’s a difficult one to judge with the youngsters. There’s also different avenues to gaining a first team place. Look at Rashford and Lingard as two examples, completely different routes into the first team. Or Pogba.

posted on 7/1/19

Think Lukaku is still highly regarded in football, though not by United fans.

posted on 7/1/19

Indeed Dazza. Rashers might still be playing for the youth / reserves / U23's or what ever, were it not for good fortune when Martial got injured in the warm ups.

posted on 7/1/19

Yeah good fortune plays a big part. Rashford is a bit of an anomaly in his route to the first team, in fairness. I cannot think of any other academy player, anywhere, where everything fell onto his lap and to take their opportunity like that.

posted on 7/1/19

I think him just being a poacher is wrong - he had like 6/7 assists last season. A lot more than Kane. Not saying he’s a better striker but more that he isn’t just some tap in merchant

This is what I keep saying to Berbaking and KungFu about having to take your opportunity when you get it.

Something Pereira and McT keep failing to do. How many more does a manager give them.

posted on 7/1/19

It depends on the age of the players I suppose. There’s less pressure on a teenager easing their way into the first team than say a player like Pereira who’s in his 20’s and already played first team football on loan.

Despite what fans say, blooding youth players into the team effectively is very difficult to do, especially at big clubs with big expectations, and why many coaches and clubs aren’t comitted to doing it.

posted on 7/1/19

I don't think McTominay and Pereira are good enough for us, which is why they aren't seen to be taking their chances.

Thats not to say they can't have good careers elsewhere.

-----------------------

He does tend to average about 6 assists per season in the league, which is decent enough.

posted on 7/1/19

Quite a few of his assists are square balls or lay offs, though. They don’t really reflect what type of striker he is. Goal poacher is a fair description even if he does chip in with a few assists.

So feck off Jose

All the players are saying this.

Hopefully the board are listening. Veiled digs at Mourinho don’t mean anything if the board go and appoint another pragmatic manager.

Hmm, his one against Chelsea last season for Lingard showed his potential. Hopefully being a striker - who did have success on the right - can get the best out of Lukaku

Simeone it is then...

To be fair to Lukaku/Jose, last season Lukaku was arguably our best outfield player with one or two players who could argue their case

I think Lukaku might have screwed up the start of this season by bulking up too much which might be blamed on Martinez for allowing it to happen during the build up to a World Cup or just Lukaku himself for being naive enough to think it would help

Hernandez used to put in some great crosses and set up some goals doing that, didn’t really change what style of striker he was. Some strikers do have a decent cross on them, even if they are limited players, because they have a good understanding of where the ball should be put.
