He needs better players around him.

I think there’s a clear misunderstanding over Jorginho’s role, which essentially is a misunderstanding of Sarri’s style of football. The backwards passes are intentional to invite pressure so that we can attack the space which they have left behind. This is not an individualistic way of football, and he is not expected to pick the ball up from defence and find players in space like Xavi Alonso or Pirlo. His main asset to the team is his positional intelligence when we have the ball. He may not be the one who created the chance, but he is likely to be involved in creating the space.

So basically an Italian/Brazilian Joe Allen?

You see the way we controlled the whole game yesterday, Spurs didn't get a sniff and we were constantly in their final 3rd? Yeah Jorginho is the main reason. Had we a decent striker we don't lose at least and nobody would be batting an eyelid about Jorginho apart from probably praising him.

If you don't understand what Jorginho does you've either never played football at any level or just don't understand football and expect 40 yard diagonal through balls every time.

I've been saying this for fackin weeks....watched him closely again last night

Sorry...I don't get it...mind you Barkley was awful and kova didn't pull up any trees replacing him

We really need something new in midfield....Kante was excellent again

I'm told he dictates the tempo of our play....if this is the case we need a different tempo...and by that I mean getting the ball forward quicker

It's his job to keep us in possession and moving the ball from deep.

It's Barkley's role to give the ball away to the opposition all the time - although I have quite worked out the reasoning behind that yet!

do you think he's doing a decent job of that Brum...?

We wouldn't be controlling games with Kanté at DM, see would also not be getting the best out of Kanté who is best when he is intercepting and pressing rather than shielding and not being proactive.

Jorginho is the present and medium term future of this club in that position, Deal with it.

Honestly think some fans would rather go back to parking the bus and playing like Barnsley away at our rivals. Madness.

@OP

Go and watch the victory against City. It should make things clearer about Jorginho's role.

Looks a very ordinary player given the hype. Then again we signed Fred so I know how it feels.

A lot of Chelsea fans have the blinkers on atm when it comes to him, probably because they hyped him initially and are too stubborn to backtrack. He's a smart player but he's not the most talented and physically he lacks a lot (pace/power) especially in the PL. To me he looks like a better version of Harry Winks which doesn't say much

In fairness Garden it is a specialist and fairly unique role that he plays. I have extensive experience of playing and watching football since the early 70s and I find Sarriball a very new concept and have not come across a player like Jorgingo before. It takes some getting used to, but I do understand his role.

Well that is debatable because Kante has perfected the role as DM for a team that does not want much possession and prefers to counter attack. I would jus say that Kante's original role no longer exists a CFC. Hence he is now learning a new role and improving each week imo.

I tell you what...to be fair, in defence of this ...he's currently our most likely scorer
