Pogba should be playing where he is now. None of this rubbish Jose was doing. It’s not an attitude problem. Pogba wants to take risks and make things happen, he can’t do that if he’s thinking all day about his defensive responsibility
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He obviously does if he was asked to play in midfield but didn't want to and therefore didn't perform. Milner spent a season at left back ffs. Do you think he wanted to play there? His attitude is a good one.
-----------------

Milner is great professional TOOR and I have a lot of respect for him as a player, but there is no comparison between the two players.

Milner has made the most of average to good ability through sheer hard work and commitment. Pogba is on a different level in terms of natural ability. Milner has no personality. Pogba is a extrovert. You can't just expect all players to be the same, have the same outlook on the game and be happy with their lot.

Can you image Ronaldo being happy with being played in a defensive role? Or Ronaldinho? And why would you want to even think about doing that anyway?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't. However I imagine Ronaldo at Pogba's age would have knuckled down and followed his manager's instructions and tried to be the best in that position. You don't always get to play the position you like, at all times, it's about the team, not yourself. Pogba obviously doesn't understand this.
---------------------

He obviously does, as that is what he did in the world cup. However, that was for a short period. I can understand why he wouldn't want to do it indefinitely. Its like Gerrard for England. He had a few games where he just sat and concentrated on the defensive side of the game and let Lampard do the attacking. He was most impressive in this role when we beat Germany 5-1. But those kinds of performances from him were few and far between and he was usually looking to get forwards. Had he had sacrificed for the team a bit more than I think that pairing of him and Lampard could have worked much better, but it didn't happen and our England managers should have recognised this and dropped one of them for the good of the team. Some players are just a bit more selfish than others.

Huh? You're saying Gerrard refused to play the more defensive role? They played a double-pivot, in a 4-4-2. If he was asked to be the defensive player, he did this. He always played where he was asked, even when he didn't like it, like when he was pushed out to the right, as we lacked goals and creativity, one season. He played attacking midfield, central midfield, defensive midfield, right back and even up front. He didn't suddenly turn to crap after being put into a different position than the one he preferred. This will be what could stop Pogba becoming a top player. He's got the ability but he doesn't have the attitude. When things don't go his way, he sulks, instead of knuckling down and getting on with it.

So yeah - he obviously doesn't.

Gerrard did play defensively on occasion for both club and country, but on the whole he was more attack minded, and rightly so. It would have been waste (at least for club) to play him in a defensive role all the time and I suspect he would have got frustrated had that been the case. Which is what has happened with Pogba. He played a more defensive role for his country during the world cup and it worked. He was happy to make that sacrifice for his country for the short term. I think when your are doing that for your country when the manager doesn't have the option of making new signings, but has to work with what he has got, it is probably more acceptable to a player. But Pogba was often playing alongside two more defensively minded CMs under Jose and still being asked to defend. It was pointless and a waste of his ability. Some players are more suited to utility roles, such as Gerrard, P Neveille, etc. Others are better sticking to specific positions.

Yes I agree with this. However if the manager wants to manager wants to play a certain way as he thinks it helps the defence as they aren't good enough, then the player should be expected to knuckle down and get on with it, not sulk and put in performances way below his standard. It shows he has a poor attitude.

His attitude isn't exemplary. There have been games/situations in games where he could have done more. But Jose set himself up for the fall. He alienated a lot of the players and few in the team seemed to understand their role. He also alienated the fans and the board. None of our attacking players were performing at the levels that they are capable of and Jose had plenty of chance to sort the defence.
