This is why we never win trophies ...

This Tottenham team may be the best in the PL era to never actually win a trophy. Lloris, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Eriksen, Alli, Son and Kane. Some group of players there!

The problem is the mentality of the club - as evidenced in that interview - which poch appears to have bought into. Top 4 is the best Spurs can ever be and it’s way more important than winning trophies - which is facking nonsense. I think most spurs fans would take finishing outside the top 4 for 2 or 3 seasons in exchange for winning the premier league

Poch only goes for real trophies.

the problem is spurs don't know how to lose properly.
you should go out in the first round of the cups like liverpool and collect your CL winnings until the new stadium starts to generate the big money.
this will pay for the players you need for depth.

We've had 4 semi finals under Poch. We won one; it was against Sheff U and we very nearly ballsed that up too.

Do you believe 3 semi outs is because of luck?

Spurs are too focussed on doing better than Arsenal. That's their definition of success, which betrays an inferiority complex which runs thru the club. Even Poch has become infected with the same mentality. Consequently, they can't set their sights on silverware or material success.

Has nothing to do with Arsenal. Team today just wasn't good enough, and without Kane and the rest of our top players it will continue not being good enough to carry on the form we were on before that lot got injured. Although Son coming back will help.

Really?

Judging by the embarrassing selfies your players post when you beat us, and the general ‘lets just get on with it’ when we beat you, I’d say the obsession is the other way round.

Arsenal hardly registers with Spurs these days. We've been looking up more than we have below us this season.

the mentality of the club is a poison running so deep that its still there. under Levy and ENIC the club has finally managed to drag itself from being a joke, to being a serious football team, on and off the pitch... but the mentality remains weak. today was absolutely pathetic from all involved at spurs.

in the premier league era we have had players like Klinsmann Anderton Sheringham Ginola Campbell King Davids Defoe Carrick Bale Modric Berbatov Keane VDV Kane Eriksen Dembele Verts Toby Son Alli and loads more. and we have managed 2 league cups.

how many semi finals have we lost in that time? im gonna go for 12. that feels about right. the mentality is a poison

The mentality is definitely a poison and it hasn’t really changed much. Pochettino has tweaked it no doubt and we are getting the odd result against top teams we were never getting before , but the losers mentality and weak backbone is still rife throughout the whole club. That’s why I knew we weren’t winning anything this season as the moment a chance presents itself to progress, we choke like a bunch of bottlers. We literally are the ultimate bottlers it’s as simple as that.

The longer we go without winning a trophy the harder it gets. The pressure of being nearly men will affect the current squad more and more and new future additions will also feel the burden very soon. The sooner we get this monkey off our backs the better and if we can do so more success will probably follow. Hard to imagine it will happen though.

The answer is to try and add quality to the team. If we ever bought any marquee signings who had real experience of winning then trophies would follow. But we never do this and don't look like doing this any time soon.

It's how City went from being a team that never won anything to winning something. Yes they did it with an awful lot of money, but it was the players they were spending that money on - Aguero, Toure, Silva etc.

posted on 27/1/19

Maybe when we finally move into the new stadium and the final costs are known and factored in Levy will then loosen the spending on players policy. A couple of marquee signings/proven winners blended into the squad may tip the scales to achieving winning success. There is no guarantee that this will succeed and will in all probably disrupt our wages policy but it will at some stage have to be tried. We cannot persist with signing what seem to be good value under the radar type players and hoping that that will be enough.

We have to be regular top four and CL participants and enjoy increased revenue from the new stadium to have any chance of seeing this happen which is why so much emphasis is given on being a consistent top four finishing team even to the detriment of any domestic cup success.

Spurs fans have to be the cleverest fans in the World when it comes to hindsight

We are 3rd in the league despite not having a proper “home” ground.

Our injury list is horrendous and unfortunately it coincided with two important Cup games, which I was not surprised to see us lose.
Remember we only just beat Palace earlier this season with a near enough first team playing.
They came close to beating Liverpool recently at Anfield, so they are no mugs, are they?

So I did not expect to beat them with a shadow squad yesterday, our first choice team is exceptional, unfortunately not all of our back up players come close.

I also think certain Spurs fans on here, are delighted when their forecasts of doom actually happen, rather than understanding why we cannot compete with the big money clubs at the moment.

It is is to shout at Levy to open the purse strings, but who do we buy that will improve the team and can slot in seamlessly.

We can’t afford to pay £80-100m for players, which rules out a lot of very good players.

Getting back up of the right quality for Kane is also very difficult, as who would want to be a bench warmer?

We certainly don’t want players like Alex Sanchez, who only moved to United because the offered him stupid money.

As for Rabiot, I am not sure I would want him at Spurs, his attitude is suspect at the very least.

Pochettino has a losers mentality, it is a sure thing that when you start gobbing off to the press about not wanting to win trophies, he is gradually losing the plot.

If you keep playing weakened teams in cup competitions, then of course you won't win anything. I am now of the opinion that Spurs will never win anything with Poch in charge. I was absolutely mortified when I saw the starting XI yesterday.

I think the club are happy to be the new arsenal. Just make money in the top four. They will probably be happy if the new ground is full of tourists like the emerites. If it ever opens.

Wheels look to have been coming off for a while and I feel the injuries, although have not helped, have been a smokescreen and used as an excuse. Chelsea went to Wembley and completely dominated spurs in the first leg of the carabao cup too as your team looked fatigued then. Your team looks completely battered atm and maybe the 1 game a week will help.

Greetings from a Virgin Australia flight, 35,000 feet over Australia en route to Brisbane.✈️👨‍✈️

We don’t know fully what Poch’s remit or objectives are as set out by the Board, do we?

I don’t think you can say he has a losers mentality at all, more pragmatic in his thinking possibly but I am not privy to his thoughts.

I think above all else it is key that the club secures CL football for next season both from a footballing perspective as well as a financial one.

There are only two ways we can do this, a) win the damn trophy or c) finish in the top 4.

I think that has been rationalised as the best outcome for the club in the immediate short term.

Genius - Tasmania is awesome. Don't bother going to the west coast; it's so far and not that interesting. Spend all your time on the east coast.

Wineglass Bay and that whole national park is probably the most beautiful place I've ever been.
