I keep hoping Sarri will take this squad to the next level. Our passing and possession game albeit across the pitch has definitely improved and reflected in our possession stats nearly every game. The only problem is that seems to be it.........

If he is still fine tuning his master-plan before moving on to getting our team scoring goals that is fine, I will be patient I guess.

I think the problem is the midfield, there’s not really any creativity and there’s a massive lack of goals. Higuain won’t help unless that improves.

Ed, it's glaringly obvious that the midfield is the problem. Oh, and we could do with some leaders around the place !

True but the lack of leaders is as big an issue as the lack of quality in attack from the midfield. Kante is a leader, but he won’t be getting the ball and unlocking stubborn defences as it’s not his game. Kovacic and Jorginho have the same issues.

It's a definite tangible problem you've touched on there Darren. Kovacic has'nt scored all season and Jorginho has only through penalties. A midfield without a goal threat is gna struggle to break down organised defences.

First of all ,as we know,Kante is not being played in his best position of D/M.
Kovacic is just an average journeyman player.
Jorginho,is very overated and was taken to the cleaners by a kid tonight !

and their was no one there to shout about and lead the team!

Kante isn't a DM

Yes he is ,a box to box D/M.

Summer, the lack of goals wouldn’t be as big a problem is it was a creative midfield but that isn’t the case either. They are good at controlling the midfield but it seems to often fall down once you are in the final third.

Sounds like you need a Scott Brown

A lot of the passing is just sideways and backwards at a slow non-threatening tempo. The time we decide to press forward a lot of the time they are set up in banks of four and then we try these stupid little flicks and one-two through a congested middle or it's put out wide for a full back to deliver either (a) a shi ite cross that doesn't go anywhere near our players or (b) a good cross but there are nowhere near enough bodies in the box to be on the end of it. Either way it's shi ite and we lack penetration.

You’ve just described Man United for most of the last six seasons, summer.

Yeah but you've now cleared out the problems and look dangerous again

Ed Woodward is still in a job, the problems will return don’t you worry about that.

Been too distracted by having a moan but RtM is right. Credit to Bournemouth, more than deserved today. Also that Nathan Are looks a player...

The thing is Sarri’s football isn’t supposed to be from side to side. There’s reasons why we pass it backwards, but that’s only to provoke a press from the opposition and to start again in building our attack; which is supposed to result in direct passes which cut through the opposition.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Oppos have sussed that they dont need to press as Jorginho offers nothing going forward and we just sold our plan B. would love to see Kant move to in front of the defence and Barclay and Kovacic together in midfield. As for Emmersen hell be back in the reserves soon enough after that tom he dished up tonight.

Woodward even has the face of someone who looks like he has no idea what he’s doing. He should be in politics

Him and Mourinho were the dream team for me - why break it up!

Emerson had a poor game, but Alonso’s been a liability for months. Emerson at least offers mobility.

Agree with that sideshow, playing a high line with Alonso's lack of pace is scary.

Nope, he represents everything wrong with Manchester United post Fergie. Though I must admit he’s pleased me recently by sacking Mourinho, appointing an attacking manager and flogging Fellaini.
