Kante is getting better and better in the advanced midfield position. Every time he has a good match the media stay silent, but every time Chelsea lose, they pipe up and clamour for him to play in his old position.

Yup and it's starting to get really tiring. Two lovely assists from Kante yesterday in advanced positions.

Yes, we played very well yesterday. A lot quicker tempo, pressing from the front and actually scored some goals for a change.

It's the issue of consistency, we seem to play like this whenever we feel like it or because of a shiiitee performance the game before.

We've got a very difficult and defining February month of fixtures coming up. After this we will have a better picture of the top 4 race.

If United get KO'd from the champions league which is likely then they'll have 1 game a week just to focus on the top 4 whereas we will undoubtedly have Thursday and Sunday most weeks.

If we cannot get top 4 then there's always the EL to fall back on.

Helped immensely that we had a genuine striker playing that can actually play

That being said...Huddersfield were about as good as the England cricket batting line up yesterday...

From my POV, taking away the obvious positive that Higuain bought, I thought Barkley had a good game albeit, as you said against a poor Huddersfield side. I'm not a great fan of him but you can only play against whatever you're pitted against.

I still don't see him as a big cog in the gears and don't think he'll be as effective against better opposition although it would be nice if he could prove that wrong between now and the end of the season.

My other observation is that the usual Sarri substitution of Barkley and Kovacic didn't materialise, with him swapping Jorg for Kova instead.

This, with Kova's neat but uninspiring passing for me is a more natural role for the Croat. In future I'd rather see him and Jorg rotated together, than with Barkley.

CHO and RLC didn't really get much time to showcase themselves for future starts - something Sarri needs to address soon as far as I'm concerned.

Overall a solid display rather than inspiring one - but at the end of the day three points are three points.

Our batting line up has actually been poor for a long time though Sheriff, the fact that Sri Lanka took every opportunity to throw the last series just put a coat of white wash over the cracks!

This. I'd also rather see Jorginho and Kova rotated in one position with RLC and Barkley rotated in the other position.

Jorginho and Kova together in midfield just doesn't work well enough for me. The balance isn't right and it's when these two play together that we seem to get a lot of this side to side passing without much penetration or breaking lines.

We're pretty much on the same song sheet here Superb, they both seem alike players.

My favoured 1st team line up in midfield with the players available, would be Jorg/Kante/RLC.

Kante can just rotate with his other self!

Brummie hopefully Sarri now sees this as well after yesterday's starting lineup, subs and the result of the match

And yeah my favoured starting line up would be Kante Jorginho Loftus-Cheek as well. I think we'll need that midfield to have a chance of beating the very best teams.

Who's the Jody Morris in this managerial team then Brummie ?

posted on 3/2/19

In an ideal world we will sign Jobs permanently and have him rotating with Jorginho and Kante.

Sign a relitevely reliable scorer for LCM and have Barkley or RLC as back up, then switch whoever stays out of those two with Mason Mount in summer 2020 if all goes to plan and he successful on loan in the prem.

RLC is too good to just be a backup. And given a run of games (which he hasn't had) I think he'd score and assist quite frequently. Certainly more than any of our current midfield three.

I don't see Mount as a CM either, seems better suited as a No 10 to me!

On the contrary he's never really convinced me in more than a squad player capacity, and we didn't seem to control the middle of the park as good when he's on .

I think a Mount who furfils his potential would be perfect for the LCM role.

He's times his attacking runs well, is creative and deceptively good defensively. Although I will admit that I over estimated his current level, I thought he was ready for us last summer but probably needs a PL loan to top up the Derby loan.
