Back-up Striker

Would love someone in the mould of a Son Heung Min, who can play comfortably across the front 3.

From your list there Arnautovic would probably fit that mould the best but there are question marks as you say.

Beyond that I don't really know. One for our scouts hopefully.

Don't think any of them want to play second fiddle at the moment.

Danny Welbeck. Would be a free signing.

Not an unreasonable shout, but I'm not sure he's quite good enough. There's a balance in that, we need better squad depth in key areas, but in achieving that, we need players who are both sufficiently talented but also content with not starting every week.

Yep. Mentioned him a few times. Can play all across the front 3 and would be happy in a rotation role.

Hernandez- past his best
Arnautovic- too old for what he would cost
Wilson- decent PL player nothing more

I like Mitrovic although not as much after his handbags with De Gea.

LMAO. Was going to say.

Was thinking the Brazilian guy in Everton. Versatile. Blistering pace too.

I like king though. Want Brooks though from them, and Fraser.

BTW has anyone seen Doherty from wolves?

They paid 50 mill for him. Would cost a Lukaku like fee to get him now. There’s also probably good alternative on the continent.

Good player but he’s a right back. Would love to see an Irish man at United again though.

Surely greenwood would be better than any of that list.

Definitely don't need an out and out number 9. Like someone mentioned above if we shipped out Lukaku and bought somebody like Son who can't slot into 2 or 3 forward roles we'd be better off. It would have to be somebody like Son though as no way they'd sell him to us.

Martial, Rashford, Jesse, Sancho and Sanchez would be the dream for next year.

How can you start that sentence with the word "surely"?

I've listed established PL players who wouldn't cost the earth in a back-up role.

You think it's a "sure" thing that Greenwood, who hasn't yet played against adults, would be better than *any* of them?

Redastomatoes....

Richarlinson is a very, very good player. Wouldn't say no. But as backup? For the price we'd have to pay? I don't think he fits the bill, but he's certainly be a quality edition to the squad.

Son from Tottenham

Rashford IS the 'back up striker', if that is the terminology being used. He is not bad as a 60th minute substitute, but not intelligent enough to be a starter against quality defenders.

United do need another striker though, as Lukaku cannot be expected to do it on his own.

In that sense someone like arnautovic would be a good call.

However, in terms of attacking threat, and in order to maintain a season-long title challenge, it is wingers that are a greater priority.

To be honest, I was trying to keep the parameters of the discussion quite narrow.

But yes, my preference would be that Rashford, Martial & Sanchez could rotate when needed between the #9 role, and we went and signed a very good wide players who can play on the right side predominately, but can also fill in across the other roles.

I've been vocal as a fan of Zaha, who's age wouldn't necessarily hinder Chong. I also like Sancho, though he'd cost the earth.

Sanchez and also that lad from the reserves. Greenwood is it?

Sell Lukaku.

Use the money to buy a decent backup/ rotatable sriker/attacker.

Use some of Lukaku's big wages for the new attacker.

Bingo - we bring in a better back up player replacement and save on some money in wages.

posted on 9/2/19

If we're going to replace Lukaku it has to be with somebody who won't drastically alter the way our forward line operates when they come into the side, so aside from knowing where the goal is, they need to be quick and make good runs. If they could combine well with others and link play as well that would be a bonus but finding a player with all of those attributes for a reasonable price won't be easy.

I'd settle for a capable finisher with lively movement.
