Visited Krakow last year for 3 days and can't recomend it enough. Lovely city smothered in history every where you turn. Cheap as,as well for drinks and food.
Visited Auschwitz while I was there of course, very somber place but well worth a visit if you have interest in that period of history as I do.
Both great cities. I love Krakow especially, went there for the second time back in November. I did hostels myself all three times (once in Berlin and twice in Krakow). So cheap over in Poland too. Auschwitz is a surreal experience but worth a trip. The salt mine is good too if you get the chance.
I stayed in the Jewish quarter, Hotel David. Was a lovely place, reasonable price too. The fact are room looked out to an old cemetary may of had somethinf to do with that though.
Thanks, we both love history and thought of something different from the sun holidays so decided a December holiday instead, sounds like a definite plan, just thought it was a strange option for her to bring up
Easy enough to get to Krakow from Berlin by Rail as well it seems which would be good?
I did a free walking tour of Berlin when I was there too, goes on for a good couple of hours and goes through the events of the war and shows you the damage that is still visible today. It was really interesting.
I went in January and it was absolutely freezing, added to the experience though. Spent a lot of the time eating and drinking outside in heated tents. Was brilliant.
Fan......your daughter comes across as having twice the savvy of you simply sounds a great trip as 2 great cities

The first time I went to Krakow was a February and it was around -10 and snowed every day, freezing but beautiful. When I went back in November it was quite mild, it reached around 20 degrees one day! Couldn't believe it.

Been to Berlin quite a few times. Krakow yet to do.
You’ll be history and museumed out. Superb. You’ll love it.
Krakow was a superb holiday when we went Fan. Some great memories and it's cheap as chips.
Both great places to spend time fan love krakow - no matter the time of year it’s a beautiful place.
8 1/2 hours on a train from Berlin to Krakow €28!
Fan...such a pity that you're exactly a hundred quid short of the price of the flights. Your poor lassie's heart will be broken over this. Some folk have no conscience.
Haven't been to krakow but I think it will be excellent. Berlin is a great but far bigger than I expected before arriving.
This sounds interesting.....good info
Berlin is a great city, but it’s that big you won’t get around it all in 3 days.
