He's really not very good. Chelsea sold him for that reason and he's gone missing during Fulham's embarrassing relegation.
Beyond that, he was fairly average in Germany too

Yeah was going to say, talk to most Chelsea fans you'd think Schurrle is a good player, but he really really isn't.
Yes,not at the moment but during his time as a Chelsea player he was good and fairly decent. His recent performances are also a reflection of the poor team he is playing with which doesn't help him get his mojo back so easily.

I disagree. He had about 1 good game every 10, in the other 9 he was useless.
We have sold many players prematurely in recent times but Schurrle ain't one of them.
Chelsea quickly realised Shirley was a depreciating asset, so they were quick to cash on him
Shirley was very hit and miss for us. Some games great, other games totally anonymous. If he was a more consistent performer we might have kept him.
A player who probably should be better than he is. Playstyle like Son
Schurrie was an interesting one. Think if we'd kept him he'd of wound up becoming another Kalou like presence in the squad, and different people will have their opinions on whether that's a good thing or not.
I will say considering the Schurrie money was used on near enough a straight exchange swap with Cuardado we might as well have kept him.
Not that bad as we signed dross like Drinkwater and Bakayako but sold him.Mata at present would do a great job for Chelsea in a playmaker role.
As great as Mata is, shadow of the player we had but still pretty damn good, I think hindsight has proven us right to sell (just maybe a little prematurely).
You look at both Conte & Sarri's tactical frameworks and there's no natural position for Mata to slot into. None of Conte's favored formations for us or elsewhere require a pure no.10, and Sarri's playmakers always play deeper in the field. Seems selling him would always have been an inevitability.
To hell with Sarri,Mata is still useful if played as a playmaker or at times on the wing. His crossing ability and free kick goals are still better than those present at Chelsea excluding Hazard,Azpilicueta and Pedro.
Sarri's teams are about interchanging of movement in the opponents half from the five players ahead of the DLP/Regista. If Mata played in the no.8 role he'd be too similar to Kovacic offensively while not offering anything defensively, and in the RW slot he'd slow everything down the same way Willian does.
He's a proper 4231 playmaker. He needs that double pivot to protect him defensively, like Ozil.
Devil D.A if Sarri were not there and Aid and or Allegri were Chelsea manager, would Mata & Schurrle have a rile to play for Chelsea in its current squad or not.Answer in affirmative or negating reply.
Who's Aid?
Yes, Allegri would use Mata well

Prime Mata or the present day version?
*Zidane or Allegri were Chelsea manager!
I was at his last game and he was all over the place and Jose subbed him off at half time.
Not sure what happened but maybe it was homesick? Didn't enjoy it under Jose? Doesn't make Jose a bad person and I don't think they fell out and I think quite the opposite, Jose seemed to rate him. I personally think he was homesick as he went back to Germany for a while
He said recently in his last 6 months e had a dodgy meal when we were on a European away day that kept him out for a few weeks
