The only player who plays most times is Mkhi!
In my opinion the only slightly contentious selection would be Ozil. Can he play two games in a row? Definitely think he will be starting against Man Utd at home. So as its away maybe Ramsey starts again with Ozil to come on after 60 mins if we are behind.
I think its worth giving Mustafi another chance at right back. He is a stupid defender but he is great in the air in both boxes.
Do we not have the home leg first?
I have a gut feeling about this game. Rennes in good form can cause us a lot of problems.
Think Emery need to line-up a very strong team.
Would prefer Jenko to Mustafi on the RB position.
Providing our players don't underestimate Rennes and barring a catastrophe in the Man Utd fixture sandwiched in between my gut feeling is that we will win the away leg 0-2 and the home leg comfortably 3-0, aggregate score 5-0 or possibly 5-1 if they do manage to grab a goal in one of the fixtures.
They are 10th in Ligue 1 and have won 10, lost 9 and drawn 7. With 35 goals scored and 34 goals conceded.
I'm feeling pretty confident considering our recent performances, i think Ozil will shine in these matches if Emery does actually play him.
Just need to ensure we get an away goal.

Should play this team. Rest our CBs and Xhaka for United. A tight loss will not be a disaster with the return fixture coming before a 2 week break. The players will be able to go all out not having to be worried about conserving energy for a weekend match like will happen in the first leg

Don't think we will beat these lot 5-0 over the two legs.
They are not a bad team.
Going to have to play a fairly strong team and hope we don't have any injuries for United team.
We always go into a game against united littered with injuries

They have a new coach since early december. Thierry Henry wanted him as assistant when he was at Monaco, before the guy was promoted from Rennes reserve coach.
His results are pretty good:
6 W (including an away win over Lyon)
3 L (including one over PSG)
2 D
Still not worried at all, we'll see
FYI. Real Betis are 8th in La Liga and stuck 3 goals past them at Roazhon Park (Rennes home ground). Match finished 3-3.
Rennes are terrible and we should smash them.

Providing we do not get run ragged the CB's should not be overly tired for the Man Utd game. Continuity in terms of the defence and developing their relationship together is arguably just as important or more so than giving them a rest which they probably don't need.
Koscielny has only come back recently so should not be too tired and Sokratis has not been over-used this season and does not look tired but would be more due a rest than Laurent.
I do think it would be silly to take a risk in the first leg away from home by making dramatic changes to the defence, considering our injuries i don't think there is even much scope to make changes at CB other than Mustafi coming inside and Maitland-Niles/Jenkinson or Lichsteiner playing RB/RWB.
Should Koscielny or Sokratis pick up an injury though and miss the Man Utd game then that could be a problem indeed.

You can get injured in training. Injury is part of the game and its not worth worrying about it tbh. There is an issue that injury is more likely with fatigue but as you suggested earlier in your post that is really not the case with either player.
I don't think its worth overplaying the importance of the Man Utd game. Looking at the schedule we are done with top 6 teams after Utd. Whereas they still have to play each other. Whats more most of our games away are against teams that are sitting in mid-table with very little to play for apart from pride. I would love a win against Utd but honestly a draw is just as good.

Aye we have suffered without VAR for a very long time. I think Arsene Wenger staying so long embedded in views that we were soft and often dived. I think its coloured a whole generation of refs. I am glad Emery didn't make a big fuss after Saturday and allowed Shearer etc. to do it.
I think the two clubs that voted against VAR last season were Man Utd and Chelsea. Says everything on who plays the media game to influence refs.
