In the Prem, a lot of bottom-table teams have good keepers (some of our products) and the goals are the same size. Maybe Rom has it in his head, because I think he can get rid of this bad mojo and start lighting up the top sides. He worked his socks off tonight and came close a few time, on another night 2-3 go in. With the right guidance we should see more improvement. He shouldn't be written off.

He's just it that good mate. He's not as bad as some say he is but we won't win a CL or PL title with him as our main man either for me. His overall game is lacking.
Scoring bag fulls against the bottom teams is all well and good but these days the big clashes are meaning more and more and he just doesn't deliver in them. 1 in 17 now. Nowhere near the standard. £75m too don't forget. He needs to be getting 1 in 2 or worst case 1 in 3 in the big games. Aguero n Kane do.
I don’t think Lukaku is a striker that will lead us to a league title, but I don’t think Rashford is either. We’ve still got quite a few issues that will see us fall short in that regard. I think the club may need to be patient and look to a season of development for the team and some of the younger players to start thinking about the title, to be honest. Whether they have that remains to be seen. If they don’t, we’re gonna need to bring in some proven players in crucial position to get us to that level. And cf is probably a big one as they often prpve the difference over a long season. Few title winning teams have a striker that can’t consistently score goals and make the difference in the big games.
Lukaku played OK today. Was a real threat in the first half, making chances as well as being in the box. I prefer Rashford overall but it’s not our biggest problem.
I have always said Lukaku is a good striker. He just isn't going to be a top drawer one.
Depends how highly you value the cf position. Having a striker that can dig you out of a hole is worth it’s weight in gold, United fans should know this given how many we’ve had that have done this for us over the years. Imagine how much better off we’d have been since Fergie retired if we had Rooney or RVP at their best. Both proved they can carry teams and win games for them on their own at times - none of our current strikers can do that.
Tommy Taylor, Denis Law, Pancho, Joe Jordan, Frank Stapleton, Mark Hughes, Andy Cole, Dwight York, OGS, Teddy, RVN, Wayne Rooney, RVP, and the rest...
Lukaku, despite been a good striker is not in that league as Man United require.
I think that's fair Eric the King. It's just that when Rashford has a bad spell, his youth maybe shows. In terms of, he really does seem to lose the plot and look out of his depth. Knowing he's good enough makes it more frustrating when I see him just falling apart tbh
I think Rashford tries to assume too much responsibility sometimes. Especially when having a bad game. It’s both a good and bad thing. It’s a good thing because it shows his mentality to not be phased and let his head drop, which is good for a young player, and he’s come up with some good moments and goals in games when playing badly because of this. But the bad thing about it is that it can affect the team play, when better decisions could prove more fruitful, and also shows the lack of leadership in the team that a guy so young is having to do this when others should be expected to in his stead - most notably Pogba and Lukaku.
This season reminds me of 2016/17 season were goalkeepers are MOTM against us most games while teams like Arsenal fluke wins to be above us.
I don't think their keeper was motm today, though he did play well. We were just poor in the big attacking moments
Leno stopped two one on ones with Lukaku and Lukaku also hit the bar when it was easier to score. How many strikers have 3 big chances in an away match and not score any?
De Gea cost us the game as well as ref as without those mistakes that would have been the easiest clean sheet of the season away from home.
I agree we should have won with the chances we had and the goals we conceded. As for the ref, I thought the pen was the right call. It wasn't the slight grab of the arm, it was when Fred turned his leg into Laca's. You can't do that when you're behind the forward. Might seem soft but also probably correct
Lukaku is a good CF. No more, no less. His price tag seems to have convinced some he is far better than he is.
We will not win the title or Champs league with our 3 forwards (Lukaku, Rashford, Martial) getting 15 - 18 goals per season.
We therefore need to improve the service to Lukaku, replace him or get a lot more goals out of the other forwards.
37 between the 3 of them in all competitions so far.
This isn’t a great season to judge them.

What do you honestly think they are capable.of getting each under a more offensive coach then?
For comparison liverpools 3 have 50 and City's 59.
Robb is right in that it isn't a great season to judge considering half of it was wasted going through the Jose nonsense

Liverpool and City have managers that care about attacking football.
We had a manager that did not
Thought I’d add this....
Goals vs Premier League Top 6 teams since the start of the 2014/15 season:
Vardy - 29
Agüero - 29
Kane - 22
Mané - 17
Sigurdsson - 13
Firmino - 13
Hazard - 13
Giroud - 12
Alli - 9
Wijnaldum - 9
Salah - 8
Rooney - 8
De Bruyne - 7
Özil - 6
Walters - 6
Lukaku - 6 (in 53 games)
He’s a great striker..... for a mid table club.
Goals for Manchester United this season:
Romelu Lukaku - 15
Cristiano Martial - 11
Thierry Rashford - 11
I guess Cristiano and Thierry are Championship standard then

All I’m saying is that he didn’t miss those chances today because it was a big team. The width of a crossbar is not the result of a player thinking ‘oh my god, I’m playing against Arsenal’ anymore than him slotting the ball past the Saints keeper is him thinking ‘see, it’s only Saints’
---------------
Pretty lame using the width of the crossbar as an excuse. It was an absolutely horrendous miss. He was a few yards out and got such a bad connection that he hit into the ground so much that is bounced up that high! Terrible timing. Which as I have mentioned before, could be partly down to his size and lack of timing/agility.
