How does this format work? Top two go through to the quarter finals after playing 2 games?

posted on 21/9/11

I believe that's how it works, otherwise it would be over in a week.

yes top 2 go through, then its super 8. This is going to be interesting and I feel all the asian teams will be a threat as there were very familiar with the conditions. Its like a year left before it starts but seems exciting.

too short in my opinion.... better if it was 2 groups of 6 teams and then straight into semis for top 2, after 5 games....

Group of death = Group D!!!

Its super 8 or quarter finals???

no super 8, then 2 matches of semifinals, and then finals

considering the rain that effected the lanka-aussies series, I have a feeling this tourney will go the same way with it being in october...... Another masterclass from the ICC?

What rubbish, I think it's the easiest of the groups.

all groups are pretty much easy to qualify for the test playing nation. Unless these teams play poorly, all the teams will qualify. The minnows have no chance.

I think september is pretty much a rainy seoson, and hope no games are affected by rain as this will ruin the fun of a 20/20 game. ICC should start thinking of back up plans

Group A - Eng and india to qualify
B - Aussies windies
C - Lanka saffer
D - Any 2/3 - all capable of beating one another in T20 format, much more than any other teams in the above group...... Defo group of death, no doubt about it

In some ways having a qualifier can be dangerous as England have discovered in the past. In T20 upsets can be the order of the day.

Hftb, you talk from your rear end!

Group A and B are lucky, simply because, first and fore most they'll have a qualifer in their groups. Second of all there is only one sub-continent teams in both groups...Whereas in Group D there is two.

In Groups C and D... There are all International teams, anyone of which can qualify!- Whereas in Group A and B, the International teams will be expected to qualify!

By the way, Afridi... 3-0...Carrick and Berba...in defence!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

afridid seriosly? bangladesh are very poor in t20 format, and they are definately not capable of chasing 150+..... For minnows, ireland have a good chance of beating any team, and they generally play very good against england in a important match

Anyway...

2007- Final
2009- Winners
2010- Semi-final
2012- ?????

I expect Pakistan to make the semi-final at the very least, last time round had it not been for that one in a life time Hussey innings Pakistan would've made the Final again.

hopefor, do we need to worry or have India now found a couple of bowlers who would look out of place at the annual Yorkshire Pie Chucking championships?

Amir, your boys play cra'p and superbly and nobody knows what to expect these days. That makes you lot extremely dangerous in my book.

Amir when I do talk from my rear end I'll be able to understand you for the first time.

In the last T20WC England just scraped past Ireland in the pool stage and in the previous WC lost to the Netherlands.

Fair point, but if one of the International teams from Groups A & B, don't qualify...that'd look worse than, if a RSA or Pakistan were not to qualify in their respective groups!

And...why would you be able to understand me this time and not other times? I'm sorry, but what langauge am I writing in now, that's, so different to before?

Very impressive Amir :p

hopefor, Amir can help you lol

Looks like 4 open groups and hard to pick a winner from any of them. We all know how this kind of cricket can go on a given day.

Bet India must be glad they got England again lol.

As for Pak groups i still have not got over the Ross Taylor (aided by K Akmal) show but still we should qualify with 2 wins.

the most deadly teams have to be newzealand and pakistan..... They always have suprises for other teams, and it wont be different this time..... Though I can assure SA will not win it....

I love the Indian commentator on the Somerset game sneering about Somerset having a South African in their team He wants the so call Indian team to win, with Kallis(capt), Bret Lee and ten Doeschate.
The hypocrisy is abundant.
