Great article

I haven't been yet, first game will be wednesday, but have heard the same feedback, escalators and crowded bars (especially the south stand bar) the two issues. Are there not lots of bars dotted around the East, North and West stands? Does everyone just congregate in the south stand bar at the moment?

when atletico madrid moved to their new stadium, it was served with it's v own metro station.....specifically for the stadium

such forward planning and care for the supporter is sadly lacking in the UK, though

meanwhile in Nigeria

access to the top tier of the stadium, is reserved solely for those with good climbing skilz

It looks like the South Stand bars are the most popular; I tried to access them to meet up with my brother-in-law, but only got so far, and they had put cordons up, so didn`t bother, last week seemed not to bad, but obviously with more spectators yesterday, just seemed overly overcrowded. Hopefully once all the excitement of the new stadium settles down, supporters will revert back to their normal arrival times at the stadium.

It would be good if somehow they could extend a branch of the Victoria Line down from Seven Sisters to White Hart Lane and on to Edmonton and beyond up to Enfield, not only just for football, but there is a very large community in and around Tottenham and Edmonton. Will happen in time I suspect, but probably not in my lifetime.

To be fair, atletico moved to a new stadium in the middle of nowhere and close to existing rail services.
A different proposition to tottenham who, quite rightly, wanted to stay put.

The lifts at the Emirates are only for the handicapped too, it doesn’t matter how many letters your write to the club sandy, you’ll have to bring some crutches if you want to use the lift

yes it's close to the airport, on former wasteland , not in a built up area, and quite far away from atleti's tradition support base around south west madrid and districts such as carabanchel

I did actually eventually access a couple of lifts, the first one kept going up two floors and down one, took about 10 minutes to go from Level One to Level Five. And when I went to access another one, after about a five minute wait, we all found out it was out of action. So I ended up walking up in the end.

The use of escalators in this environment is an H&S concern.
Whilst at a concert at Madison Square Gardens they were turned off when people were leaving the arena as there were massive bottlenecks.

Problem with the south stand market place it holds 3.5k.

South stand holds 17.5k then you have another 20k from other stages trying to access it

It’s just not going to work is it. If I was spurs I’d lock the south stand down until the novelty wears off.

Why is everyone congregating there? Are there not bars around the other parts of the ground?

Yea there’s bars in every area but obviously the market place is the best place to be.

I too went the the match yesterday, my first time, and was also initially surprised at the lack of escalators. Having used one when going to Wembley, I just assumed this would be the same at the new stadium.

Obviously I do get the possible H&S issues, but there are plenty of people who were really, and I mean really, struggling to get to their seats due to being totally out of breath.

I am in the upper East, so have to walk up to level 5, then have a further 27 rows to climb before getting to my seat. Whilst I am physically ok, I am not as young as I was, with a bit of arthritis in one knee and was breathing really heavy by the time I got to my seat.

The worry though is I watched several supporters older or less fit than others who looked like they might not make it to their seats.

Not sure what the answer is. Clearly having spent that much, they are not going to spend more on escalators, so do they change their policy with the lifts, once someone has a heart attack ?

Obviously 62k fans cant all converge on the lifts, but perhaps the older, or less physically fit should, with some proper organisation from stewards, be able to at least go up, whilst everyone walks down at the end.

Really not sure the answer with this one, but the Stadium / atmosphere was fantastic.Wednesday
( once you make it to your seat ) will be awesome.

I was absolutely facked walking up the steps from the bottom of the south stand to the top.

Feel sorry for anyone that does that every game.

I was 252 row 28 ( in line with the wheelchair users ) and if you have a ST around that area you’re in for a treat.

I always thought they should have pushed for this after London won the Olympic bid, loop the Victoria line round after Seven Sisters via Northumberland Pk and on to Walthamstow or Stratford.

I agree Hengy, once the novelty wears off, I suspect supporters will just stay in their own areas. Until then I would shut the South Stand off for a bit. I shall also try to get tickets lower down to avoid the climbing of to many stairs, although I did climb all the stairs from Level 1 to Level 5 yesterday, I don`t really want to be doing that every match, although the view was superb.

Yes, I saw them yesterday, when I was walking up Creighton Road, they were all parked up. I think they take the place of the W3. Northumberland Park will be open Wednesday, just the weekends, they are doing all the engineering works.
