I think the truth is mate that we were never that good to begin with. We all knew the impact of the WC on some of our best players, the realization of injuries as a result and 2 straight windows of inactivity were always gonna have an impact.

Going back to the early part of the season, yeah we were winning games but we all commented that we were never really convincing. The number of losses (10) tells you all you need to know and the lack of draws was reflection of a team that couldn't grind out a result just move on to the next game.

City & Liverpool are miles better than the rest and the fact that again Arsenal, United & Chelsea have all had disrupted/ transitional seasons for one reason or another has given Spurs a slightly false position and some of our fans unrealistic expectations.

With that said Poch & the players have done an admirable job keeping this together for as long as they have But, lots of us have seen this coming. Sitting up in 3rd for quite a while and even being talked about as contenders was never realistic. Sure we beat a mess of a Chelsea team at home & United in crisis at OT but so what... As per normal we lost both the reverse fixtures as soon as they got their acts together. Truth is, have we really beaten anyone of note this year... hard to tell with the Dortmund result as German football is clearly in a transitional period in terms of its clubs and national team (look at how easily Pool beat Bayern !

As soon as the tough games came thick & fast we folded as per normal.... Burnley & saints fighting for their lives, Arsenal (we were lucky to get a draw), Chelsea beat us twice as they have better players despite Sarri's BS and sure we were unlucky yesterday BUT these are mental lapses and a lack of concentration & heart when you need to stand up and be counted.

Palace is nightmare game, one i could see us losing. They have the players in positions to hurt us (Zaha & Townsend), are far better away than at home, Its a London Derby and a big occasion which I'm sure they will enjoy as much as the Spurs lads..... after all, who wouldn't enjoy playing at that place.

This has been a lopsided season in so many ways, I'm not angry about it, I just think that by looking back now the signs were clearly there... We all knew this tough stretch was coming and once again Spurs position has been slightly inflated by the failings of others rather than anything especially outstanding we have done.

Like I said, anyone who ends up being surprised if we finish 5th is guilty of buying into a lot of hype. The players & manager (despite some horrible mistakes) deserve a lot of credit for holding things together but now is the time of year when the big boys win the games they need to... We are simply not in that class

I have my reservations about Levy BUT, no question he deserves credit for the stadium but this summer is gonna have to bring about a change in approach otherwise this stadium & its massive costs could be a cloud that hangs over the club for years

Townsend.

Are you seriously saying Spurs have not got better players than Townsend.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not at all mate.... For example Eriksen is far better player but right now he looks like he doesn't want to be at Spurs. Hugo (on paper) is much better than their keeper but he's consistently made crucial errors this season) All I'm saying is that palace are dangerous out wide with good pace and our FBs and defending in wide areas is hardly our strength

I agree with some of your comments, but you do not sit in top three for most of the season, if you are an average side. Sure the team are not getting the results at the moment, but form is temporary, class is permament. Spurs still have some of the best players in the country, and as they showed yesterday and against Dortmund in the CL, they can mix it with the very best.

The main problems this season, has to me not playing a settled side. Far, far too many changes game on game.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sitting 3rd for much of the season means nothing if you end up 5th. The season finishes in May not March !!!! and you have to play everyone twice. There has been nothing to suggest that we were ever gonna beat the Likes Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool & Man City in this current tough stretch and has been proved by the 10 losses, we are more than capable of dropping a clanger against a team we should beat.

I'm afraid your comment about "class" is misguided mate.... Spurs are still beating "most" of the teams they should and still failing to beat the big teams when it matters. This mindset is reflective of the current culture at the club from top to bottom, that we think we are far better than we actually are..... Its why we are not progressing on the field... Liverpool and city are class & they don't put a run of form together like we are on

I definitely think we are the third best team in the country. But we are miles behind the top two and likely to weaken in the summer when everyone else strengthens.

I wish I could agree with you. Sadly I think if we played any of City, Liverpool, United, Arsenal or Chelsea tomorrow with fully fit squads on a neutral ground I don't think we'd win any of them. Granted all sides have their ups/downs, bad managers, injuries, new stadium issues etc. Yes we have been more consistent than most over a couple of years but that means nothing.... all that matters is now. I think Liverpool were bang average yesterday & we were great in the second half, but........ Same old.... we lost

Yeh but we haven`t ended up 5th yet have we. So why all the doom and gloom. As it stands Spurs have as good a chance of finishing 3rd or 5th.

The first time in what Four seasons Spurs have put together like a run like the current one and you are moaning your head off.

As I said a dip in results happens to all teams from time to time. With good teams like Spurs though it will not last forever.

Didn`t Spurs beat Liverpool, United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Barcelona and Dortmund last season. Haven`t like Spurs beaten Chelsea, United, Inter Milan and Dortmund twice this season, so they do beat the good teams as well. None of the top four or five beat the teams around them on a regular basis season after season.

The losses do not matter that much if you don`t draw a lot. The league is a points based business, so you could win 26, lose 12, and still accumulate 78 points. Not losing games does not guarantee you lots more points.

City are the best team in the country by far, Spurs are just as good as the other top teams with the difference being that Pool don't make many individual errors that cost them points and have a never ending supply of good fortune. Reverse all our individual errors and gifts from the officials with those of Pool, and we would be second behind City imo.

Thats true mate.... but its symptomatic of Spurs.... Odd goal losses to United, Liverpool which we really should have got something from in addition to Saints, Burnley, Wolves, Watford etc would make a hell of a difference now. Great teams know when to grind out a draw when you are not playing well and move on. It helps establish runs of form In addition to games like yesterday where, when the pressure is on, you knew we'd find a way to throw it away..... Its what generates the "Spursy" tag and probably a reason why the other big teams don't fear us

I very much doubt there has been many champions who have gone a season with one draw. We had 7 draws last year and secured 4th by 7 points, the year before 4 draws and made top by 11 points

At least we don't need to worry about a possible negative impact from a change of stadium anymore, since we can't do any worse at the moment. It'll either give us a boost or we'll carry on business as normal and still be rubbish.

I’ve just seen your remaining fixtures. 5 of them at home. With the exception of City, I can see you winning the rest.

You’re still in a good position for top 4 even despite your recent form purely because of how many wins you racked up earlier on in the season.

It’s all up for grabs. Wouldn’t surprise me if it goes down to the wire.

We are not as good as Liverpool. We were last season but not this season. If you were to reverse the luck and individual errors we'd still be behind them, because at both ends of the pitch we haven't been as good as them. They've scored many more and conceded far fewer.
