This thread comes wrapped in false modesty. How long until a poster starts crying poverty and comparing the funds spent by both clubs in recent transfer windows?

Who cares about trophies? It's all about the net spend.

Its seems that our home leg will be key. If we can get a clean sheet it will be ideal.

I think you’ve got a decent chance, you just look much more fluid in attack when Kane isn’t in the team, you were fairly unlucky on Saturday.

Incredible chance to reach a CL final.

I'm happy we face Ajax instead of Juve, I felt sure when the QF and SF draw was made that if we somehow got past Man City, the horrible, tactical, CL savvy Juventus, along with Ronaldo who loves scoring against us (or anyone for that matter). I certainly give us a better chance against Ajax, who I imagine will be feeling much like ourselves, proud of coming this far against the odds but staring at an incredible opportunity.

I see the Eredivisie has cancelled all games for the weekend which will assist them. Anyone know if they have any injuries/suspensions?

From the limited football I've seen from them, I would suggest that stopping De Ligt feed the ball out from the back would be something to focus on. He gets the ball to Ziyech, De Jong and Van De Beek which are their key players in the centre, so stopping their supply line with a press would be wise. Ziyech is their key midfielder for me, he seems to have boundless energy and we can't allow him to overrun us. Shame Sissoko is out as he could have helped here.

Their line up away at Juve would suggest Tadic played as their main striker, did anyone watch that game who could confirm this?

Don't believe I said anyone is.

Have suggested that may be Real & Juve did, despite their vast UCL experience it's a trap some can fall into without really realising it. I am sure that if we fail to get through there will be plenty of Spurs fans saying we bottled our best chance ever.

Think you'll beat them with ease in the end to be honest.

They have some very talented young players, who will be fearless having been to Juve & Madrid and won.

However, both sides took them lightly at home. Juve have been guilty of this a few times this season. Spurs will not do that.

They're a very good side, so brave and confident for a young team, they use the ball really well, flood men forward and take risks.

Fancy this to be the better fo the two semi finals in terms fo games to watch, the two styles should really make it a good game.

Juve and Real not really pressing teams either. They often are a bit arrogant and expect their quality to win through.

I feel Spurs will tactically have the better of them.

Yep, that'll be the difference between Spurs and Juve/ Madrid imo, the pressing of the back line and the mentality of the players.

I actually believe both Ajax and Spurs have the best styles to beat Barca too. They can be got at and Ajax take those risks on the ball, Spurs press really well too and their defence don't really enjoy that.

I think if Liverpool are to beat Barca, they'll need to go back to their "heavy metal" football of last season.

Ajax should have won at home against Juve and drawn against Madrid. So the results even flattered their opposition. They will be well up for it. Ajax away form is even better than their home form in the CL group stages so it seems. Will be a tough task for Spurs.

Ajax's defence can certainly be got at, and look suspect from crosses into the box (see Asensio's goal, both of Ronaldo's etc).

It is 50/50, but I expect Spurs to come out on top. Both Real Madrid and Juventus were arrogant, assumed they were going to breeze past Ajax, Spurs will not make the same mistake. I am for once confident of finally winning a semi-final, as good as Ajax have been.

posted on 23/4/19

To be honest last season Spurs were better than both Real and Juventus overall in the four games between the sides. They comfortably handled Madrid and were absolutely mugged by Juventus, who had one decent 10 minute spell over the 180 minutes of the two matches.

I fancy Ajax for this personally but Spurs at their best should win.

First half against Juve they could not hold on the ball as Dybala did a good job on De Jong. They could not build up from the back so played the long ball to Tadic which he lost against the more taller Juve defenders.

The problem is italian football is not a high energy pressing league so Juve were tired second half and dropped back which gave De Jong and Ziyech more space to play quick ball between the lines.

I think Spurs is used to playing a high pressing game for 90 minutes and if you do this you will win.

Their weak links are their full back positions and Blind who is a smart player but not the best in the air.

Surely a defeat does not necessarily = bottling it.

Its a SF vs a team who had knocked out Juve & Real and avoided defeat to Munich.

Sounds like you're the one taking them lightly if any sort of defeat is considered by you as bottling it

Depends on the manner of the defeat. If we freeze on the big night, if we make stupid errors, blow good chances then yes, we bottled it and you can question our mentality.

If we play brilliantly but are just beaten on the night by the better team then no, its not bottling it. Not every defeat is bottling it
