Player ratings vs. Arsenal

For me MOM goes to either Choudry or Evans, both were immense. I think you've been a tad harsh with some of the marking here, probably in an attempt to appear calm in the face of a terrific performance - I wouldn't score any of our first 11 less than an eight

Evans MOTM for me too. He covers for Maguire and Chilwell’s naivety very very well. He was faultless today.

Otherwise I think the balance of your reviews are about right. I’m interested to see if Rodgers was trialling a more defensive set up for next week. I think we’ll start with the same team against Man City as Choudhury gives us more cover and enables Maddison and Tielemans both to be more creative. It was nice to see him have more impact that a gray has recently, even if it was more tracking back than picking apart defences. Leave Tilly to that.

Totally agree on Albrighton. He had an off day today. He didn’t seem to ever get in to his stride with his link up play of final pass which he kept under hitting. That said he still put in two incredible crosses that could have been goals. He’s better than today. He’s always a 7, but today I give him a 6. Still 50 times better than Gray though 😉

It’s one where you could make a case for quite a few being MoTM - for the right reasons.

Evans did nothing to disprove the theory that either Maguire or Morgan both look much more comfortable when they start games alongside him. We might have found our replacement for Robert Huth, but with slightly different attributes.

We need to sign Tielemans. He is the much needed creative balance in midfield.

Choudhury only enhanced his growing reputation once again. It said a lot that BRodgers felt comfortable to sub N’Didi at half time with confidence that Hamza could do the defensive mid role on his own. HC, WND and Mendy all look like they have something to offer in the CDM role now that we have more balance with Youri and Maddison ahead of them.

Vardy is Vardy. Another 18 goals this season now. Club legend!

What about Arsenal? They definitely did come to ‘do a Newcastle’, which says a lot about their current status. Newcastle do a Newcastle because they have inferior players and rely on great discipline and organisation. Arsenal are a top six team! Surely they should have the players to take the game to us and make us worry about them more than they do us?

They were happy to sit deep and play on the break, but looked very uncomfortable doing it. We were picking them apart with 11 men, but once it was 10 it was one of our easiest games this season. Given the grief that Arsenal have given us over the years it all felt a bit weird - but in a good way.

There was an early comment on Sky that Arsenal were playing a high line. Do they never learn - Vardy's easiest game for months.

Just a little disappointed in Maddison's theatricals, which could stifle an international career but overall, this was a fantastic performance.

I just hope Rogers can keep this team together, add a few signings and take them on to win something.

--------

Given that Arsenal have a team full of internationals, this didn't seem to affect their players' chances. It was like facing the North London Synchronised Diving team for much of the match.

Yes - Maddison was highlighted because it contributed to the key decision of the match, but Arsenal players were doing triple backward somersaults after the slightest of touches. The referee actually did really well throughout the game not to be conned by the theatricals, but it will be remembered for the one he arguably got wrong.

The thing is that Maddison was fouled - but rolling himself up into a ball like he’d be mortally wounded was somewhat unseemly.

Can't do a moan today even about Kaspers fumble, because its was followed by an inch perfect through ball! Was that really Arsenal or even Leicester with to CDM's! Tilly really makes a big difference.
I'm with you Dung to much rolling around from Madd's and am i the only one yelling pass before he shoots.
But really vintage LCFC.
Now pep has said we they are going to beat us come on boys nail them.....Oh hang on that would mean the Pool would win the league and we would never hear the end of it.!!!! Gray on Vardy benched then

Nev - Is there not a part of you that would take great amusement in chanting "We're Leicester City, we won you the league" at Liverpool next season?

Great performance all round, not impressed with Danny Murthy comments re Maddison, Player made a lot of tackle, but Arsenal players and fans were almost comical in there constant appealing.
Just shows what can be achieved when a manager who understands his players, and there is mutual respect.
Same players ,different manager, shows what a bad appointment Puel turned out to be.
We have a lot to look forward to.
We are now in a position where we could influence title race.
Not sure how i feel bout Man city away??

Dunge, I only have one rating I disagree with, Tielemans, who was a 3 at best.

Just to be clear for anybody reading from a 'big' club, he was pants and needs to be shipped back to Monaco as soon as possible. Certainly not worth anybody considering as a purchase in the summer.

Danny Murphy is beginning to irritate me in the same way that Chris Sutton does. These things are usually quite nuanced, but they both make statements without any ambiguity as if it makes them look hard.

I’m just waiting for the: “.... Maddison needs to be playing at a bigger club...” comments, which will inevitably start very soon. In fact you could probably change the name Maddison for any of: Maguire, Chilwell, Tielemans or N’didi ... with Choudhury and Barnes probably on future Murphy bingo cards.

Chris Sutton is basically upset that Leicester have taken his "greatest underdog victors in the Premier League" tag from his Blackburn Rovers side. He didn't want us to do it at the time and he's never forgiven us for it. The best thing to do for him would be to cradle his head, stroke his hair and repeat "There, there".

Danny Murphy has always seemed to me like he's been to the Mark Lawrenson school of miserable punditry.

Nuneaton, agree re Tielemans, performance, reminds me of Junior Lewis.!! Why would we want him??

Danny Murphy is getting annoying no doubt. Is he anti Leicester and annoying or just anti-everyone and I just haven’t noticed when he’s annoying others?

As for the Man City game, my wife is a Liverpool fan, and I’ve promised her we’ll sort Man City out for her. If Leicester let me down, I’ll be invoicing the divorce bill directly to the club.

Jamie Vardy will have a party against that defence, whilst Choudhury our Fernandinho’s Fernandinho. No doubt about it.....

.... we’re gonna get walloped aren’t we!

* whilst Choudhury out Fernandinho Fernandinho!

Silly phone.

A good point is made by Thorney. It’s a shame we didn’t get to see what this squad could have actually achieved with a manager that played to their strengths. With links to many of our players next year I think we’ll be looking at a similar, but different starting 11 next season.

Tielemans’ comments are sounding more and more like he’s waiting for a big club to come in, and Maguire may well be away. Benkovic is an upgrade on Maguire obviously so no issue there, but if Tielemans isn’t signed and we lose one other key player, we will need a very good summer of recruitment to continue our progress.

I hope all those players want to play for Rodgers and he becomes a factor. That and taking a look at Mahrez and Drinkwater to see what can happen if you don’t get your move right! Never underestimate playing and enjoying your football at a club!

Are there some new comments from Tielemans then? Yesterday he was patting the badge after scoring, beaming with smiles at the chants of "sign him up" and doing a victory lap to the fans.

That's not to say it isn't in the balance, and nobody would blame him if he went to the likes of Spurs, but at least they're positive signs.

Also, I saw another interesting point somewhere - can't remember where - If he goes to a big club this summer, he and his agent(s) get a tidy payout. If he comes here first then moves on up two years later, they get two tidy payouts.

Those comments look very "on message" to me. Any agent will be telling him: Confirm or deny nothing. That way we can get the best deal possible and rinse any Director of Football who might be prone to rash actions of panic.

Fortunately, ours would never fall for such a thing.

posted on 29/4/19

I guess the message isn’t a resounding “get me to this club mr agent” which is what you want to see in interviews, but I accept you rarely do these days.

It does happen though.

It would be rather ironic if the paperwork was 14 seconds late again and this time we had to keep Silva.

Not really sure why everyone is so disgruntled with Danny Murphy's comments. I watched MOTD catch-up last night and thought he was spot on. Maddison made a real meal of the challenge and should be called out. Hate play acting in the modern game and we we shouldn't condone it just because it is a Leicester player.

I actually think Murphy, along with Jermaine Jenas, is one of the better pundits and generally talks a lot of sense.

FFS - I don't think it's just the weekend's incident that makes people dislike Murphy. I still remember when he repeatedly declared Mahrez to be too good for us and then got visibly upset when Lineker suggested in return that Coutinho might be too good for Liverpool.

Essentially, he's one of those snobby pundits who believes we should "know our place". Much like Graeme Souness or Gary Neville.

Tend to agree with dunge on the over view of Murphy
Ffs, as an insident I agree players should be called out,
What's this I see choudhury getting into trouble for social media comments he made in 2013 Ffs he was 15/16.
Its getting silly now with the history digging,,
Thank god we didn't have interweb when we were growing up,
We'd all be hanging from trees

Actually we probably were 😁

Basically Dunge nails it, although I would add that I think Murphy is an incredibly one dimensional pundit much like Chris Sutton -but I guess there is some subjectivity here as I don’t think Jenas adds much either, although he is improving.

On the specific incident with Maddison. I actually think it was a foul, although Maddison definitely over reacted. It was appropriate to call this out. My wider frustration was that Arsenal players were throwing themselves around all game, but this one incident ensured that the focus was on us and not them.

Dublin - So I understand it, an upset Arsenal fan went digging and found some of Choudhury's old tweets - i.e. from when he was a minor.

Nothing career-threatening but some stuff that the club would doubtless rather wasn't there and of course that the FA will decide to punish. Because, you know, perfect chance to make an example of someone.
