Hopefully not. Far too many English teams in it, totally devalues it

No, only top 4 and winners of the 2 European cups qualify. Maximum of 5 teams though, so potential for 4th to miss out.

"Arsenal and Chelsea are both in the Europa League semi-finals and are among the favourites to lift the trophy in Baku. If either of them win the tournament, they will qualify for next season's Champions League group stages.

If the winners finish outside the top four in the Premier League, it will mean five English teams will be in the Champions League.

However if they do finish in the top four, then England will not get an extra spot. The team who finish third in the fifth-ranked league - France - will go into the Champions League group stages instead of the qualifiers.

There is no Champions League spot for the beaten finalists."

I’ll get how people can never get their head around.

If you win the Europa you get CL.

If you get top 4 you get CL unless a side outside the top 4 wins the CL and you finish 4th.

Its not difficult to understand.

Get nothing as Europa runners up. Just a bit of heart ache for the supports, so one of them has that to look forward to.

The only way to lose out when finishing 4th is if two other English clubs finish outside top 4 and win the CL and EL.

EL has no bearing either way.

If you finish 4th it’s only the CL winner that can keep out of the CL next season if they are outside of the top 4.

Process. A maximum of 5 clubs from England can qualify. If none of the top 4 win a European trophy and the fifth and sixth placed teams do then 4th would miss out. For example this season if Spurs finish fifth and win CL there would be five English clubs in the CL next season.

Only if the team in 6th then wins the EL would the team in 4th miss out.

It would have to take a very unlikely set of circumstances to finish 4th and miss out on CL football.

This season is probably the closest we'll get as there's still a chance of the two European trophies going to English sides finishing out of the top 4.

Has the rule changed? Did someone miss out due to Chelsea winning it in 2012 and finishing 6th or am I wrong?

Spurs missed out! The rules have changed since then though.

Naturally. The year they changed the away goals rule for the league cup meant we went out rather than go to the final this year.

Away goals rule could help you v Ajax though as it did against City!

Incorrect, EL runners-up get nothing. PL teams can have 4/5 teams in CL & 4th can miss out if PL teams win both CL & EL and finish outside top 4
