Why u putting in Naka and Samaras and Roberts they arent strikers
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Im putting players who could play in Stokes position..

Stokes was played on the wing a lot
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No he wasn't

So Hesselink was an awful striker too then?

posted on 7/5/19

Well at least he done the damage for Hibs in the Scottish Cup Final

Stokes couldnt be trusted in the big games unlike Jan who scored when it really mattered. The sign of a top striker IMO

However over the course of the season Stokes scored fewer goals than in previous seasons, mainly due to new manager Ronny Deila fielding him in a wide left role as opposed to his more recognised position as a striker.[84][85] Stokes' form at this time was often unimpressive, drawing criticism from supporters,[86][87] and he was also disciplined by the club after he returned to Celtic late from a trip to his home city of Dublin.[87] Stokes continued to feature on the left wing for Celtic though

Aye yer right

One season..... He wasnt trusted by Lennon either for big games and got sent off against Rangers

He played 40 times in 2 seasons for Deila, even if he played 75% of that in a left wing role, that doesn't mean he played on the left wing a lot of his Celtic career. Those stats don't even count for a quarter of his appearances for the club.

As for JVOH being a dud, he scored in big games, he also assisted in a lot of goals and has a better strike ratio than Stokes despite having injury problems and not being there as long.

You're killing your own argument ffs

Invincibles plus Wanyama and VVD for me.

13 players in our best 11?

A few issues with that mate.

So lets say he played those games as a striker, and scored an extra 20 goals for example. That would take his goal ratio to 0.50, which is a good strike rate.

Im willing to bet Stokes has more assists than JVOH

In the frutile games he also bagged a goal? Yes, he probably did.

I'm more interested in guys good enough in the games that mattered and not popping up with a goal here and there when the games already won.

Stokes whilst being decent during his time at the club wouldn't make the top 11 starters an in fact if the bench was say 5 more he wouldn't get on there either.

Lets take it one step further

Had Stokes not got us back into the game against Kilmarnock we wouldnt have won the league that season, Lennon would have probably walked, and god knows where we would have been just now, but lets just forget that

Or being man of the match and winning us 12/13 scottish cup..

Lets also forget he was out injured for 5 months.

And finally lets forget that he got us into the champions league in 2013 where we got THAT result against Barcelona and qualified for the last 16

But yeah never done anything worthwhile

Ledley is overrated for me, no better than the like of Barry Robson and Paul Hartley.

I know some on here think he's handsome and that tips the scales for them but Mcgregor is a far better player.

Would rather see you line up with that mug then just about all the other strikers mentioned.
