70th place is actually a good ranking for NIreland if you look back at their record over the past 25 years!!

From July 2001 to Jan 2006 they were never above 100th place

Their highest position ever was 33 in 1994!!! Hard to believe and all but its true!!

Apologies Alex . Fairs fair my mistake

I honestly believe that the NIreland side under Sanchez were probably a stronger side than the Steve Staunton ROI side at the time. I think you lads with Healy on fire at the time would have stuffed us at Windsor Park back then.
Still we'll never know as neither side had the opportunity to play each other at the time. I think the Carling Nations Cup came along 3 or 4 years too late for NIreland.

no need for the apology Robbie

Good points there Robbie and i agree fully. A few years ago Windsor was a bit of a fortress against stronger opposition and we were big underdogs. Cant see that happening again anytime soon to be honest, ROI on the other hand have grown steadily under GT and are very hard to beat. The match against Russia was a great example of spirit and hard work. I know they had a few critics about how luck they were but the truth of the matter is , if the Russians cant stick the ball in the onion bag , they are not gonna win. Simple
