The world would be his oyster if he lowered his demands. If he wants the wage quoted his options are very limited.

Those wages offered tells me how badly De Ligt doesn't want United.

De Ligt isn't a Sanchez type. Doubt he'll be swayed by money.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No them wages tells you one club is in CL and one us in Europa.
One currently is one of the best in Europe and one is way off but trying to get back there.
One has the likes of Messi, Suarez, Coutinho etc abd the other Lukaku, Lingard, Jones and Ashley Young. We are still a huge club however and a nassive attraction to many footballers however being in the Eurooa means we have to fork out more momey for players
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I dont agree that 1 season in the Europa league should mean we have to offer silly money to a 19 year old kid from a smaller club.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

It’s not one season though; you’ve been in and out of the Europa League since Gammon Face left, with no guarantee of being back in the CL after next season when you look at the clubs you’re competing with. De Ligt is class, the world is his oyster.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How many seasons are we going to be in the Europa league in thr coming seasons then ?l
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How the fack do I know?! You could bounce straight back into the top 4 for all anyone knows.

But realistically, City and Liverpool aren’t gonna be budged, so you’re talking about Utd,Spurs, Arsenal & Chelsea fighting it out for 2 positions, it’s tough.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hence us looking to sign quality players. A 19 year old with his whole career ahead of him shouldn't be worried about 1 season in the Europa league.

Wages are important, but I don’t buy the theory it’s the only reason players sign for Manchester United. United’s a big pull for a number of reasons.

But on the money thing, it’s worth noting that when a club has finances in the top echelons of football that it increases the prospects of bringing the top calibre leading to future success - it’s why players signed for City and PSG.

It’s not worked out that way for us as we’ve been badly run, but I doubt players look at it with as keen an eye as fans do when weighing up their options.

There are few clubs who can afford the fee AND the wages AND need a CB.

Just do it. This kid is a captain of top European club who reached the semis of the CL at the age of 19. Not only does he have the defensive attributes we need but the leadership we really really need. Maybe we can give them TFM on loan to sweeten the deal.

He might want to form a club relationship with his national CB partner?

We’d never concede again

Agree with that.

Maybe us as fans are biased but trying to look at the situation objectively, I'd say if we imagined Madrid or Barca in a similar position to us would it stop players wanting to join them? Really dont think it would. Reputation alone would be a big draw.

I get that a 28/29 year old probably doesn't want to spend some of whats left of their peak years in the Europa. But it's not inconvenieable that a 19 year old who maybe grew up watching us would sign on the (probably misguided) idea of being the guy to carry us back to the top. Of course the money helps though.

Do you the see the potential in De ligt that you qere unable to see in VVD ?

bloodred, yeah I think it’s had an impact for Liverpool over the years as well, even if it hasn’t led to them winning much.

Inflated wages are guaranteed to improve a player.

Just look at Lukaku, Pogba and Sanchez.

People can be mistaken from time to time. You should know that. For the record I thought VVD was decent but he's turned out better than that.

I've not seen enough of De Ligt but he sounds like a player we could do with. I'm sure we have a team of sorts somewhere who will have appraised what he could bring to United.

1. I have not seen enough of De Ligt to say. I have seen him have some good games and some poor ones.

2. VVD wasn't about any potential. He was 26 not 19. I didn't rate him that highly when he played for Southampton.

posted on 23/5/19

That's all fine and well but why would he take the step down from Ajax to United. He would be better off staying where he is. It's not like he can go to United, prove himself and get a move to another club as United have no need to sell if they don't wish to.
