How far down the pecking order is United
I think it depends which way you look at it. Some would prefer the trophy, others would prefer the 'exposure' and money.
If you compare it specifically with the two clubs involved, i.e. Chelsea and Spurs, I'd argue Spurs had the better season.
If you were to say before a ball was kicked, which is most likely: Chelsea to win the Europa League or Spurs to reach the CL final? I think anyone who said the latter would have been laughed out of town.
It’s hard to judge imo
You won a trophy but we were too good to even compete in that competition.
CL is the toughest club competition in the world so getting to the final is a great thing.
So overall it’s probably a draw
In terms of how difficult it is to do either obviously getting to the cl final is far harder because of the superior standard of the teams you have to get passed. However because Chelsea won and Spurs lost there will always be those who will go with the trophy winners.
Without often playing that well domestically both teams should be happy with a top 4 finish but they are both light years behind City.
Absolutely gagging for a trophy at this point
I thinks spurs fans enjoyed the CL run more than Chelsea enjoyed any aspect of their season though, even If the league was an absolute slog
I’d be happier as a Chelsea fan than a Spurs fan.
Finished 3rd and won a trophy.
Easily Chelsea but getting to a CL final is still a great achievement for spurs
Chelsea had the better season in the end, no doubt about that.
Spurs IMO, but it's close
What we needed to improve our squad's mentality was to emerge victorious in a top 4 dogfight. We know we can win trophies, what we didn't know was whether we had the bottle to sustain league form once the title was out of reach. We technically did that, but in the most unconvincing way possible.
Conversely Spurs REALLY needed to win something. Complete reverse of us, they know they'll get top 4, what they need to help their squads mentality is a trophy. Technically failed, but reaching the CL final in their circumstances especially the way they did it (so many false exits), it's almost as good as a trophy. Their squad should be thinking winning a LC or FA Cup is child's play after that, but the keyword is should.
So we get what we needed with a bad feeling. Spurs didn't get what they needed with a good feeling.

What a plonker
I'd rather be in the finals of one of the biggest game in the world, then win a secondary cup against teams like Bate, PAOK etc.
Obviously a Liverpool wum

Chelsea took Man City to pens in the league cup so I've changed my mind. Chelsea had a better season than spurs. But only just
Chelsea....by some distance.

You think?
Hate to say it but its Chelsea. Had spurs not made it out of the CL group, Dropped into the EL and gone on to win it, all while not playing like dogshlt over the last 6 months of league campaign and finishing 3rd...we'd all be more than happy.
The CL Quarters & Semis were amazing but making it to a final (any final) and losing without laying a glove on the opposition is brutal
All this season has proved is what we already know..... That we are not quite good enough,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Interesting seeing Spurs fans thinking we had the better season.
It sounds entitled but winning trophies from our prospective isn't really a surprise anymore, no matter what issues we have as a club we all know whatever squad we have has the capability to win trophies. It's the drive to keep going in the league without the main prize in reach this squad in particular has lacked the past 4/5 years, and in any other season we'd likely have finished 6th - so it would've been just another season concealing the big mentality problem in the squad.
Spurs on the other hand actually got properly close to a trophy for once. Yeah the final was bad so I guess putting a good spin on it conceals your mentality issues, but in the grand process of what you need to fix that issue you made far greater strides than we did this season, even if we ultimately claimed more literal benefits (trophy + CL qualification).
Just depends on prospective I guess.
I dont think Spurs should feel too bad for bring to good to enter a competition really.
