Toby’s reading of the game makes Sanchez play so much more intelligently I feel though. The drop off between Toby/Sanchez and Dier/Sanchez is enormous.
Toby is definitely in a ‘sell him back to Ajax summer 22’ build though unfortunately.
Back 6 of Aurier Sissoko Toby Dier Hojbjerg Reguilón in the big games where we play cowardly
Think alkmaar or someone were interested in Toby in January
Yeah Toby being more passive compliments Sanchez - whereas with Dier and Sanchez you have both your centrebacks looking to step up and be more aggressive
Michael Cox thing about the best CB combinations consisting of one 'cat' and one 'dog'
I like Crouch's version. One gazelle, one buffalo
Basically need to sell one of Toby/Sanchez/Dier to make way for a new CB and I think Sanchez's form has removed him from that conversation for now
Yeh I did like that although I personally disagree that Toby and Jan were Cat/Dog I always thought they were both Cat’s personally
Jan was the gazelle, Toby the buffalo
Dier stepping up and being aggressive is what makes him poor, he's slow on the turn and has no positional sense or organisational abilities.
Not sure who would buy Dier, another one of many who should have been sold at their peak value a few years ago
Dier is a buffalo acting like he's a gazelle
Toby and Jan were both just in their peak and incredible floor defenders, one good at traveling with the ball amd the other great at long passing. Knew each other so well so was chemistry level 10000000. We won't see a partnership like that again for sometime. All it lacked was aerial ability but at the time we didn't concede many crosses and Dier did a great job slotting between the two.

Yeah I think they actually only worked as well as they did because of Dier back then. Not that I didn’t rate the partnership but they were slightly too samey for the PL.
One of my most unpopular #ControversialOpinions is that we would have won the title if we had Cahill in 16/17 and they had Jan
Shame dier wasn't more nimble like when he first joined perfect Hojbjerg cover
Not sure who would buy Dier

This is why I think Toby will go this summer tbh
Dier in that tricky place of being accustomed to playing European football but not being good enough for any clubs with European football to want him
Hugo
Dier Toby Jan
Walker Wanyama Dembele Rose
Eriksen Dele
Kane
This team is burned into my brain and it only started 2 premier league games iirc
Of which the 5-0 vs WBA was our GOAT performance
Ndombele is starting to look meh after lots of games in his legs due to the significant drop off in standard playing our reserve CMs. In a two in some games it hasn't worked out, would like to see an actual 433 rather than a 4231 which doesn't suit us without a real playmaker '10' and good strong versatile pivot

3-0 or 4-0 at HT in a fair few prem games that season at home that season, behind the goal in the south for all of them. What a time to be alive that was

Yeah Ndom is actually a bit of a liability defensively for all his qualities. If we aren’t trying to dominate possession - which we weren’t vs Arsenal - he isn’t worth playing as the 8.
