So what now for the underrated Jorginho?

He won't be going anywhere, even if he wanted to follow Sarri again (which by the sounds of it he doesn't) we wouldn't sell our most technically accomplished midfielder in an area were already stretched not to mention one of the few players at prime age.

I think it's a bit of a myth he would only work for Sarri, he has the ability to play in a double pivot and if we stay with a three man midfield I hope he stays as DLP anyway, Kante as a sitting DM would be criminal negligence.

He won't be sold. End of.

He could defo struggle under a new manager. He’s alright but he’s not incredible on the ball or in his passing range. He could work in a two but hardly elite. He did used to be more of an expansive, dynamic goalscoring midfielder before Napoli though (according to forza).

I have to admit I don’t really buy that he’d be looking amazing for City. Fernandinho is better at that role than Jorgi for his defensive work/ball winning ability , very few players can do what Fernandinho does. Similar players that combine that type of ball winning ability while still being able to dictate play and (and so basically a one man job in midfield for an elite side) are Busquets and Fabinho

And Rodri who City are heavily linked with

Very good question.

What others have said is true, he can play in a double pivot (how Benitez used him) or even as an AM which is how he started in his youth/early 20's, but Sarri's influence has transformed him into a very niche player.

Based on his comments about Sarri moving I can't see him going to Juventus (which nicely wraps up the 'Sarri's Son' BS lol), but I could definitely see City going in for him, Jorginho wanting the move and nobody could blame him if he did. Better team, better manager (99% likely), better environment to succeed, and fans who won't turn on him for the dumbest of ignorant reasons.

With a transfer ban still in force i don't see how there is a question mark hanging over his future with us.

We simply can't afford to allow any other half decent experienced play go, without exception, if it is in our power to keep them.

He's going nowhere. We've already sold one of our best players this summer, we're not going to sell another.

I'm undecided on Amps. Is he a central defender or is he a midfielder, I'm unsure.

However that wasn't the crux of my point, which was that Jorginho's an experienced player - not something that we are blessed with, that's allied to ability.

I'd for sure have no problem with him being understudy to Jorg, but would you, with your hand on heart, sell Jorginho and place his responsibility solely on Ampadu's shoulders?

I'm all for us promoting youth but not an advocate of flooding the 1st 11 with kids - there needs to be some kind of balance!

Ampadu will for me be a CB for sure. He's potentially elite there but in midfield I just don't see it.

I wanna keep him

But I'm about to give written evidence of treason here......

I would like to see Baka get one more season at the club

I would be quite happy to keep him. His performances for the last few months of the season were very good IMO. Now that his dad is about to do one, I am quite happy for him to be in our team, providing he is there on merit rather than nepotism, I would be interested to see him maybe further forward, with Kante reverting to his most effective position.

I don't condone any of our fans that booed him last season, but I believe that they were doing it to make a point to Sarri, about how biased and intransigent his thinking was, by continuing to play his teachers pet even when he justified dropping. Ultimately that was unfair on Jorginho who ended up being scapegoated for something that wasn't his fault. If people are not playing well then it is kinder to take them out of the team temporarily until they are.

I think he was also unfairly judged last season when others in the team were not finding space for him and he was being squeezed and had no out ball.

I think hes good enough to slide into the starting 11.

He is probably not going to be the anchor of the whole system, but his passing and ability to win the ball back would make him a very valuable player for us.

Hmmm

Depends so much on the next manager

I do think Sarri is just part of a wave of managers trying to play this similar style and Jorginho could be a useful cog for a manager up to date on tactics

posted on 8/6/19

In a midfield two I’d be more excited for Kovacic than Jorginho next to Kante

posted on 8/6/19

I would be more than happy for him to play further up the field. His close control and quick passing I think could be very useful there.

I was not enjoying him as he was always 40 yards away from the goal, and in general done nothing more imo than start the attacks from the half way line which I felt was a waste of a midfield player - so maybe it was more of the way Sarri set him up and the instructions that he was given, as I am pretty certain I could not tell you one time I saw him in the 18 yard box in open play! And when one of our biggest issues was attacking with numbers.......

But that is down to the mixture, not each individual. It is also amplified by the lack of goals from our strikers, Willian, Pedro and our CBs. I think a midfield of RLC will be Kante and Jorginho was starting to look quite tasty, but it will never be enough without more goals from our strikers and other attackers. Even our CBs don't score enough.

exactly...that's my point, these three in the same side don't bring enough, you can include Barkley in that scenario too...Rubes started scoring a bit more before getting injured, but hardly prolific

Then as you say we compound the issue with the mostly inneffective Higuain/Bats/Giroud & it's a real problem.
