the summer and season for the most part will be just as long as any other summer and season in history

It's going to be dreadful.

I blame Ed, Judge and RDD.

Yea, all these clouds and rain... long, wet summer

As a Spurs fan it's an interesting watch.

United have always been a powerhouse and have pretty much always got their way in the transfer market. Leadership under SAF was so strong he could afford to boot out quality players who didnt fall in line. You picked off our best players over the years.

Now you're struggling a bit. From the outside you do not seem to be the same masive draw. 5+ years without the title and seemingly some way off being a challenger. No UCL and little pedigree in the competition since Fergie. Perhaps a few more financial constraints than in the past. Some wantaway players stirring trouble and a big rebuild needed. Jury out on your rookie manager who ended the season very badly.

While you still offer prestige, history, top wages and are a massive club, you can see players perhaps thinking twice before going there, if they also had offers from the likes of Spurs, whose stock has risen but will probably offer less wages.

Will be very interesting to see who yo'll be targeting this summer, if you can / want to hold on to Pogba (your only real global star) and whether this is a project with limited expectations in the initial years or whether top 4 and trophies are the absolute minimum requirement

It's going to be a long summer on here with people posting articles like this every day that passes without a new signing

Yeah it's going to be horrendous isn't it? Oh well strap in boys. It's going to be a bumpy ride.

Would be great if the transfer window goes badly that Ole just walked away. Unlikely to happen but what a statement that would send. Far better than any fan protest could achieve.

Does the window close before the league season starts? Didn't that change come in last season?

I'm not one to hit the proverbial JA606 panic button but it's starting to look a bit farcical.

The Daniel James deal was done early - an indictor that the club had identified targets, had begun work on the deals and were going to waste no time in getting things over the line.

But then that begs a few questions...

Why have no other players been brought in yet? Bruno Fernandes for example is clearly a target. You'd imagine that if serious work was done months and months ago, it would be over the line by now, or at least imminent.

Why are we only now bidding for AWB? It seems we've changed targets at RB as, again, we'd surely have had work gone into the deal months ago, which fees more or less agreed. That we're now bidding into late June suggests something has changed. AWB was obviously not the primary target.

CB: we appear to be after a number of different ones. Why are the club seemingly only finding out now which ones are/aren't available? Why haven't targets been sounded out well in advance? We seem to be wasting a lot of time. If Maguire for example was a key target, we should have known how much he would cost months ago and whether we were interested in him at that price. Same with De Ligt, Diop and anyone else.

And can you imagine if we'd waiting until the end of the season to appoint the manager? Suppose Ole wasn't appointed. We'd be going into the window not only in the seemingly same shambolic was we have previously, but we'd be in the situation where the targets and the new manager's blue-print may not align at all or very much.

This is exactly why we need a DoF + a team dedicated to exactly this elements of the football club.

I've no idea what you're on about. I think I made my point pretty clear.

Maybe you could clarify what you mean?

Think its a sign of the times at Utd. Still a massive draw but with a lot of uncertainties hanging over the club and a decline in fortunes, perhaps its now not the case that when Utd come knocking you instantly say Yes! You say may be and see if anything better comes along.

Your are now posting a hypothetical scenario and then ask how bad would that be of the club if they did that. Well they didnt, its just rabble-rousing.

I think that one of the problems nowadays is everyone seems to be so reactive. I don't know if it's more than previous era's but I guess social media such as this gives everyone a better platform to air their views.

For example, you could start the season by beating Chelsea and Wolves. Everyone on here would be praising Ole's specific tactics, if he bought on a sub who happened to score, he'd get praise etc.

Then you could draw 0-0 at home to Palace and people would be bemoaning Lukaku's lack of consistent finishing ability (or if sold, even saying that they wish you had kept Lukaku as he scores against the lesser teams), etc etc. You get my point.

posted on 19/6/19

Footballers are so good nowadays that anyone in the Premier League can beat anyone, sometimes for whatever reason, you're just not on top of your game, and even if you're just slightly off, a team such as Cardiff who you beat 5-1 away can come to your ground, already relegated, and turn you over.

I think the consistent top level performances that Utd fans crave to go back to are a long way off, and Ole shouldn't be judged in such a reactive manner when the first poor result arrives.

That's a bizarre interpretation. I was in favour of giving the job to Ole earlier than the end of the season for exactly this sort of reason and I'm glad they did. But the fact that they did actually do the right thing leaves even less excuses if we now have a terrible transfer window. We've had a manager in place for months so you'd hope targets and background work to match.

You've interpreted what I said in a very strange way.

Looking at our transfers in recent years we’ve made very few before 1st July. That’s when our yearly accounts start and when the transfer window officially opens. We’ve been here before.

That's at least a very slight glimmer of hope but you'd have also hoped the club, given it's circumstances, would have made a footballing decision to get as many players through the door in time for pre-season as possible.

posted on 19/6/19

Yeah you’d hope, but this is Manchester United.

I think we'll see a rush of 2 or 3 new players coming in over a short space of time soon.
