I don't have evidence of the number of injuries because I don't know where the figures are collated. But it's naive to believe they never happen,
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I didn’t say it never happens.

But it needs to happen more than once or twice a year to be regarded as something that requires a law change, doesn’t it.

You have no evidence yet you feel well positioned to say we need a new law. Incredible.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

In 2016, 18,477 cyclists were injured in road accidents, including 3,499 who were killed or seriously injured.

Suggests it’s not a once or twice a year occurrence

We were talking about cyclists causing an incident and then not being identifiable.

Let me know when you have some data for that ‘problem’ won’t you.

People on bikes are generally happy and enjoying their commute. Drivers in cities seem to be very angry just like the anti cycling brigade on here. Maybe they should get a bike and be happy like me
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I participated in my cycle to work scheme. Cycled to work twice then sold the bike. The hill got the better of me. I now drive to work like a normal person.

Winston they only get recorded if they are reported to the police and there are injuries. It's the same with minor car accidents. What I have considered in the past is creating an app where you record incidents or near misses so you can identify dangerous locations BEFORE anyone is killed or injured. How many times have you had a near miss and thought shiiit that could have been bad? It would be useful for recording conflicts between users and modes and help planners identify priority locations for interventions.

If they rode off then there would be no record meaning there would be no stat.

As for my stat above, does that not suggest with the amount of cyclists being injured that they need insurance? If they need insurance how do you suppose it identified they have it? A license plate perhaps?

posted on 25/6/19

If there are lots of cyclists being injured you take measures to reduce the amount of cyclists being injured. Is that not your first thought?

As a driver and a dog walker, I can honestly say, 90% of my interactions with cyclists are negative. It amazes me that lorries have to put big stickers on the back of the vehicle warning cyclists that what they’re about to do will probably kill them, but they go and do it anyway.

I believe that if a cyclist could take 1 second off their journey by taking a short cut through a zoo’s lion enclosure, they would. They don’t seem to have a minute to live. But hey, it’s never their fault.....is it?

Why is there a recorded number for hit and run drivers then?

And no, your stats don’t suggest that. There are a far higher number of incidents involving pedestrians but I don’t see you using those stats to push for licensing.

Time for you to think again I think.

This seems to be an English thing, cyclist against motorist. It's nowhere near as bad here. I find it strange why there are so many incidents of anger between the two.

This one was the best I've seen.

It's only YouTube. A road rage incident sparked by a motorist driving way too close to a cyclist, who proceeds to chase after him and point out his errors. The motorist then launches into a tirade against the cyclist who then sees how angry the motorist gets so proceeds to wind him up with hilarious consequences.

That’s the ones that are reported. I’ve been clipped and hit a few times and not reported it. Sometimes they drive off. Sometimes I give them a mouthful of abuse and sometimes I take it out on their cars

All I can find is that 40 pedestrians required hospital treatment after being hit by a bicycle in 2016 in Australia which is not a big help.

You’d think it’d be easy to find, given how easy it is to find the number of incidents involving drivers.

Maybe it’s not a big problem after all?

You’re actually trying to find something that backs up the need for licensing rather than approaching this objectively and you still can’t find anything.

Isn’t it about time you stepped back and reconsidered this?
