Was so painfully obvious though, like he literally bossed it at Old Trafford, one of them games (for me anyway) when you don't forget an individual performance, I sent a message to my mate that night saying did he see the big centre back at Hull, so good with the ball at his feet.

According to reports around that time, we enquired about Maguire, didn't like the fee Hull quoted, and went in for Lindelof instead.

I merely said what I believe you'll end up paying.

For what it's worth, I think he'd be a good addition.

Maguire and Robertson were clearly stand outs in the Hill side that got relegated.

One thing this transfer window silly season has taught me, it’s that I have seen very little of the players linked with us. I find it hard to judge Maguire, as I just haven’t seen enough of him. I only really watch Utd, so see other players only when they play against us.

There was a time when I would keep tabs on other players, but just don’t have the time or interest anymore.

I see enough of our players though, and I feel we need a proper leader on the pitch. Would Maguire give us that, and be an upgrade on what we have? I have a feeling he would, but the question remains; could we get better for the kind if fee we would be paying?

The right under our nose argument could also be applied to that young talented ajax side who we played in the Europa final a couple of seasons back,
Throw in the van de sar connection and it looks like we missed a trick on the the likes of de jong and de light

Our scouting system definitely needs looking at

We're not the only team to miss out on players. So I'm not too bothered about that.

I am bothered about the reported offer as it is for someone who isn't going to help us break into the top of the league (not top four). We need to look at players who either are going to improve our defence a lot now or those who have shown they will be top defenders in the future.

Hindsight.

If we signed every player that plays well against us we’d basically have Robb as our chief scout/DOF.

Don't see why the whole scouting system shouldn't be looked at when other clubs including our rivals seem have been out doing us in bringing undiscovered and under the radar talent in to their clubs.

Whether its from not sourcing players or from a breakdown higher up the decision ladder we haven't been doing the business.

Maybe its all part of the dof debate
