He’s been here three years

Now all of a sudden, we start hearing rumours

Think about it, and think why these rumours are getting spread

My guess is he was out the door the minute he disobeyed MB during the Villa debacle.

The only surprise is how long it's taken.

He's had a strong character throughout his time with us. Rumours aren't recent there's been other stuff before. He's shown petulance before, quite openly.

If we want promotion we need players of his ability on the pitch. Sometimes you have to work with characters for the greater good.

6 of one, half a dozen of another. Always the same, club will try to defend its position and the player will try to come out of it head held high.

This has been driven by Bielsa and I hope that Bielsa et al have a plan B catering for life after PJ. We weren't blessed in the defensive department last term and there's no doubt that it cost us too.

We need two more centre halves, one at least in the same bracket as Pontus. We need another keeper, a good experienced holding midfielder and at least one proven striker, possibly two if Roofe walks....

I'm not sure we can repeat last season's exploits so I feel play-offs is the best we can hope for if we can do the above.

Of course....., quality signings maketh the difference and astute moves in the transfer market could make us the team to beat.

Agreed Stevie, however recent experience suggests we never replace like with like. It is always someone with "potential" or who has failed elsewhere and has a "point to prove" or has a long history of injuries but is over that now and ready to push on....
I sincerely hope we do not but if we lose Philips and Roofe as well I and I suspect a lot of others will find it hard to be upbeat about the season coming

Didnt Monk have an issue with him?

Jansson on Brentford: ““My ambition is to play in the Premier League but I didn’t want to sit & wait for the right club in the PL to make an offer later in the summer and let this chance [to join Brentford] pass me by. I felt early on Brentford was right for me.” #lufc

He's also saying no Prem team came in for him really or he would have gone.

What;s "the right club in the PL" if you are ambitious and want to play there?

That's simply not true though is it, rumours have been around for long time that he's a bit selfish and he's had rows in training before.

Shouldn't matter as he does it on the pitch and I'm gutted he's gone, but these aren't new revelations

Agreed. Speaks volumes.

Good luck to him, money above ambition.

Bizarre that we orchestrate a deal that is dependent on the success of a rival. Surely there's a conflict of interest here.....

Think everyone knows, what he’s like, he’s been like this from day one.

My point is, he’s been here 3 years, now all of sudden he’s bad for the group.

Hang on, why was he signed after a loan and why wasn’t he shipped out long before.

This is simply, the manager and him don’t see things, the same way, nothing more, nothing less.

What’s with snide comment, why do you always have to be like this with every player who leaves, why is the outgoing player always the bad guy.

Read what he’s actually said

He wants to play in premier league

What’s wrong with that

He then said he didn’t want to risk, waiting around for a premier club and risk this move

What’s wrong with that ???

He also said he had offers from abroad but really settled In England and wanted to stay.

What’s wrong with that ???

... because this manager felt the pros outweighed the cons and the others didn’t - and sometimes relationships deteriorate or a straw breaks the camel’s back.

I agree this was purely Marcelo's decision. Where others have let Pontus be Pontus it seems Bielsa doesn't want him around the place anymore.

Its a shame, he's been colossal for us and he seemed to get what being Leeds was.

We need a replacement in this week or things could turn nasty. Ben White can not be passed off as a starter.

Again your blanket wide of the mark comments Wakey. Not bitter at all. I'd prefer him to have stayed. Brentford is hardly the best destination to fulfil your professional ambitions. Or do you think differently?

If a player chose Wigan Athletic over Leeds United simply because they were paying more what would you say?

I think Pontus could do a job in the Premier League. This was a deal rushed through.

Remarkable that you choose to highlight one of many comments I've made, simply cos it's the one you can make detrimental comments about. Shows a lack of creativity me old mucker.

I'm only shocked that you haven't made a link to Cellino and my apparent endorsement of everything he did. You said the same about me and Bates too until you acknowledged I'd never liked the two-faced old toad.

And if the manager, doesn’t want him around, I actually don’t mind that, the manager need to have his players.

What I don’t like, is the character assassination of every player that ever leaves.

And I think this, as devalued the player and wrongly

So what did you want him to do ???

He couldn’t stay at Leeds.

He said he didn’t have any offer from the prem.

I really don’t understand, what you think he could have done.

And Brentford, really aren’t big payers, are they

posted on 9/7/19

It's plain as day – Pontus is trying to save face by saying he was only sold to because the club needed cash. And who can blame him – being rejected by the club you thought you were an invaluable part of is a big knock to your professional pride. We wish the guy well and just hope he doesn't find the net in our first game against Brentford.

Agreed LIW really sad that a player who has been good for us for 3 years is suddenly a bad apple and we have to get rid. We will see who is brought in to replace him but I would be surprised if they are as good as PJ

posted on 9/7/19

I don't understand the fee at all, he is a £12m defender in this current market at least, we have made a mess of it that's for sure.

I don't blame Bielsa or Jansson, players come and go but you make sure you get what they are worth. We have a knack at doing the opposite.

Social media is full of people assassinating PJ, which I disagree with. Personally i'm just trying to make sense, in amongst disappointment at him leaving, of the what's and why's of it all.

These boards are pretty tame. most are just confused and trying to discuss and give opinions. No one knows for sure.
