England are good team and good fans but sometimes easily get upset
----------------------------------------------------------------------
India still favourites
Burns looks awful. Technique is poor, plays at too many balls he doesn't need to.
Was at Lords yesterday. Was a great day from a sporting perspective but just reinfirced my view we could easily lose the ashes. Root, Stokes and Buttler will have to get a lot of runs for us to win the series.
Leach looking like the best opener you've got...
What a crazy test this has been already. Shocking opening day from England but despite it being Ireland, I'm glad we've made a comeback as often when you get ahead of England then we buckle. Still a lot of cricket to be played but a great partnership from an unlikely source.
Can't understand people getting funny about Roy. If he's in the team, he has to play this way as it's his game. If you tell him to stick it out like they did with Hales then he will get stuck. If it doesn't work then so be it but he may as well go out and play that way.
This test has been utterly inexplicable.
I really hope someone has the balls to drop Bairstow. The guy has a serious attitude problem. Arrogance beyond belief and constantly getting out the same way, swishing across the line at straight balls. He just thinks he's too good to drop, and the selectors are too scared to give him a kick up the @rse.
Getting very nervy about Burns' continued place in the side. He just doesn't look good, and he's not been himself all summer for Surrey either.
Roy gone
What a pillock. I'm a huge fan of the guy but missing out on a ton here is just daft. Hopefully it spurs him on to score big against the Aussies.
Thing is, Jack Leach is scoring because he's keeping to the absolute basics. Scoring against bad balls, playing straight, taking few risks. You wonder why only a #11 bat is able to do this and our entire top and middle order seem incapable.
Let's hope Leach can make a century.

Aye, he's putting the rest of the batsmen to shame really.

He's been pretty poor since opening the batting for England in ODIs. Time to bring in Foakes who's a dependable bat and the best keeper.
1. Burns (hoping he improves)
2. Sibley
3. Roy
4. Root
5. Stokes
6. Buttler
7. Foakes (wk)
8. Woakes
9. Leach
10. Archer/Wood/Stone
11. Anderson
3-6 are genuinely interchangeable depending on match situation.
Helps for Leach that he also has no pressure which says to me a lot of our batsman's problems are mental.
On Bairstow, they said earlier that he averaged 58 in 2016 but since then has averaged 22. Pretty sure 2016/17 was when he started opening the batting in the ODI, and I don't think that's a coincidence.
Leach gone for 92 good knock though
With Bairstow, I genuinely do think it's an attitude/arrogance problem. He had a great couple of years and established himself as #1 wicket keeper and ODI opener. Since then he's had a very inflated opinion of himself and his importance in the team.
He then lost the gloves (due to injury) and Foakes came in and did well, and Bairstow threw a proper strop about not getting the gloves back by default. He got stroppy with the press and then bashed that (admittedly good) ton coming in at 3, and he acted as though he'd been vindicated for his childish reaction by showing just how good he was. I feel like he thinks that because he's now an ODI opener, he's one of the best in the team and so he should get to keep/bat wherever and whenever he wants.
On top of that, he has a glaring weakness in his game - playing across the line and getting bowled/caught lbw - and he just adamantly refuses to do a damn thing about it. The ratio of his clean-bowled dismissals is honestly embarrassing for a professional, supposed top-order bat.
I seriously think his attitude stinks. He's entitled, arrogant and sulky and I don't think he's anything close to as good as he thinks he is. I think a spell out of the team might teach him a bit of humility, and I especially like the idea since it would mean a more solid, reliable bat (and much better keeper) in Foakes would get back in the side, having lost his place for no good reason when Bairstow threw his hissy fit.
Bairstow
Also, re. Leach ()
You're right that he played without pressure, and that's what's so frustrating about our recognised bats. They play under huge, self-imposed pressure which they can't handle, and it makes them forget to just do the basics. Jack Leach showed today that all they need to do is keep it simple and not give your wicket away, and runs will come.
Just so frustrating. This bloody team
I am sure he will get out as soon as I post this... But for me Denly looks like he has a good technique.
Imo Burns should not play next week, just doesn't look good enough. Also, Roy will not make it an an opener in English conditions.
I would probably go..
Sibley
Denly
Root
Stokes
Roy
Buttler
Bairstow
Woakes
Moeen
Broad
Anderson
Obviously it won't happen, but I doubt a Roy/Burns partnership would make 50 all series.
Root doesn't like coming in at 3, does he?
Who is this Sibley guy you speak of?
The plank has just run Denly out now!
Bairstow gone now. England in trouble again!
Another complete shambles. Can't see us winning the ashes with these batsmen.
Aus batsmen don't look any better, they just about made 100 vs each other
I repeat my earlier comments about Bairstow. Caught in front. AGAIN.
