When my dad had cancer he got a dog. It really helped; particularly when he couldn't sleep. He'd come downstairs and the dog was more than happy to play whatever the hour. Dad swore by it. He also said that trying to stay positive and focus on some goals like planning a holiday, etc. really helped. All the best mate.

Read the OP again regarding experience of cancer in Kids and adults.

Dad got it, as did my bro in law, biker mate and family friend and wife's best friend who I worked with.

Remember taking dad to chemo in my new type R hoping the car lifted him a little and to show I was doing ok for him too.

My experience of the treatment and nurses and hospice staff is that they are special vocational people who do the hardest job....and keep chatting to keep spirits up and smiling when we want to cry.

During and after these times with cancer I found this place a comfort and distraction...talking football or music or politics or comedy, so keep doing other th8ngs red, and talk to others in the same position.

If you are into a hobby...or cycling or running or gym, give that a go to and look after your own mental and physical health.

Stay positive and strong for the wee man and good luck to you both.🙏

Hi all to give an update jnr had the op to remove the tumour yesterday (finally as it was causing anger and frustration knowing this thing is growing every second) all went well and they will do an analysis to see what cancer strains are present before they can start his chemo.
Jnr has a double lumen line inserted into his chest for the chemo, he is sore from the op but recovering.

Thank you all for your well wishes and advice of what to do, we are trying to keep his spirits up and actually his mind off it.

Took him to Alton towers on Tuesday with one of his best mates, he walked about 12 miles and had a load of fun, especially when coach groups went. Think he went on the Oblivion ride 5 times in a row.

Someone mentioned having a pet dog, he is immensely fond of dogs and his grandfather and auntie each have one and he enjoys playing with them. He unfortunately can't look after one, so I've looked into any hospices/therapy providers that have dogs among the "staff".
If so I would gladly sign up for twice a week experiences with walks etc so he can learn more about them and basically have something to look forward to as well as take exercise. I can't take him to my gym as he isnt 16 for a while yet.

His room is almost done to be comfortable for him but without being a suite. Looking for a decent bed for him as he's gonna be in it a lot.

He's on the road to recovery now.

Superb news! Amazing work our NHS does against cancer these days. I know it'll be a tough road but I'm sure you'll have him back to his best before you know it!

Hi All, jnr been in good hands following a scare with a fever following surgery he has been in hospital last 48hrs for intravenous anti biotics in case it was related to an infection.
While here the oncologist came in to discuss the treatment plan.

Short and tall is that jnr is will have treatment over the next 3 months with chemotherapy, the drug mix is called BEP. There will be a minimum of 4 cycles which will take around 12 weeks.

Each cycle is :

Week 1 = 5.5 days in-patient @ hospital
Week 2 = 0.5 days out-patient
Week 3 = 0.5 days out-patient
After the 12 weeks of treatment he will then have a scan to review the effect. Possible continuation of Chemotherapy and/or surgery required to take out the lymphs that are still present.

Thereafter he will have scans every three months for at least the first 2 years following treatment.

Treatment timeline is to begin on Monday coming, 5th August.

Thanks for your thoughts all won't be easy but we are finally on the ride.
