Rather have a front 3 of
Iwobi - Auba - Pepe
Iwobi's the most direct player we have, and can play anywhere across the attacking midfield roles.
He tracks back, always wants the ball, and isn't beyond making lung-busting runs (with or without the ball) on the counter.
Basically the antithesis of your stereotypical cookie-cutter attacking midfielder at Arsenal in 2019.
I'd start him every week if he could learn how to shoot.
Iwobi is not a winger; best suited through the middle.
Agree with DJ; there will Europa and EPL cup games he can be deployed or come in as a substitute in league games with specific instruction to run at tiring defenders.
Iwobi would be best as a reliable, long serving squad player. I don't think he would start for a better club than ours and he is perfectly placed to have long career where he's beloved.

Totally agree he is much better in central midfield
If he is being played out of position that explains a bit as he has never really wowed me. Saying he is one of our most direct players really highlights the lack of quality in the team and/ or desperate need to wingers.
Really cannot see how he could justify a first team place at Arsenal? Could be a starter for a mid table, maybe even 8-10 placed club.
Iwobi wouldn't make Bournemouth's 11 (even their benchwarmers like Stanislas are better than him). He really adds very little to our team. He's deceptively slow (even though he "looks" athletic) and rarely takes players on (but people will crow over him for the odd nutmeg) and is highly predictable in his patterns (almost always cuts in - rarely driving to the byeline) and doesn't make runs off the ball to get behind the opposition defense, and can't cross, and can't shoot, and his pass completion is mostly in the 70's despite creating less chances than nearly a dozen fullbacks in the league.
He's such a nothing player. Don't know what anyone sees in him.

He is played because he pressurises the opposition an doesn;t give them time on the ball. He is high energy and good at pinning the opposition back.
Having said all that, we can do better as his finishing and final ball are erratic at best. Would do a good job at somewhere like West Ham or Palace but long-term is not the answer at a club of our standing.

Compared to Ozil? Maybe. Compared to the average PL player, Iwobi is pretty languid. If you check his stats for duels won or tackles won or interceptions won etc, he lags behind the average player.

Not saying he's anything special just explaining why he sometimes plays. Also Opta stats can be deceiving for example Ozil is often near the top of stats for miles/kms run during a game but as we all know this 'running' is rarely as effective as it should be. Mkhi is another with decent enough stats but who flatters to deceive.
Messi is another with average stats in many areas but who almost always delivers where it matters (in the opponent's six yard box)

Of course he plays because we have no other options. Point being that his being such an option is ridiculous for a club of our stature and ambitions. Iwobi is at absolute best a mid-table level player. There are many clubs outside the PL top 6 I'd bet he wouldn't start for.

Agree mate. Pepe looks like a massive upgrade. In fact looking back we probably should have kept Walcott as at least he scored a few
Depending on his wages if hes not on too much then he can probably stay as a squad player, nothing more than that. He's had his chance to prove he's good enough to start for Arsenal but he hasn't done it. It's one of the things I like about Emery he has pretty much given everyone a chance so if they haven't grabbed that chance they cant blame anyone but themselves.
There have been lots of rumours that Iwobi might be repositioned to a more central box to box role. Think he might be really good at it but if he demands to leave. So be it. Kind of reflects the weak mentality Wenger inculcated.
But where would he fit into the team in a box-to-box role? We can continue to sideline Ozil and give Mk a bit-part role but with the addition of Pepe, toreria*\ guendozi* and Xhaka, plus now Cabellos, if Iwobi wants a central midfield role its going to be tough to get st Arsenal.
