Sanchez is finished at United if he plays on the wings, he doesn’t have the pace to beat defenders on the flank. What he still has is his acceleration and finishing, if he plays as a back up striker he can still score goals.
----
He played CF (or centrallyiin a forward position) for Chile as they adapted their tactics to get the best out of him and the rest of their aging stars. He can't play wide anymore. But I have no idea if he will be at least average.

also our next game unless we take the lead early we are not going to be able to play the counter game against wolves, they will be more than happy to let us have the ball, lets see how much we've changed from last year where we struggled horribly in those type of games in which we had to break down the opposition who sat deep

Despite the stats, I'd still play Lingard over Sanchez if we have any interest in pressing. Neither are going to score or assist prolifically, but only one of them offers the movement we need.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
lingard is probably decent at the running part of the pressing but he lacks the brain and passing when we actually get the ball back.
i don't know if it is lvg's training but he seems to think you have to pass it sideways and "put your foot on the ball" every time you get it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Don't get me wrong, my argument is based on how bad Sanchez is, not on presenting Lingard as a fine player. But Lingard's intelligent and tireless movement is an actual asset, and he has often been playing during the best (fleeting) spells of football we've seen United play over the last year or two. Sanchez lacks the movement AND he rarely makes anything happen with the ball anyway.

I thought we were well on top in the league game until Fred gave the ball away in a stupid area and they scored. In fact I think we'd have won had Young not got sent off.

Lingard’s pass completion rate is up over 85%. Sanchez’s was under 75%.
...............
that is because lingard passes it backwards or sideways 99% of the time. he destroys every single attack by slowing us down and passing it three yards and then coming short again. reminder: lingard has ten pl assists in his entire united career. the same amount as angel di maria.
sanchez gives it away a lot but at least he always goes for the killer ball.
last season lingard played 7 more games than sanchez, played roughly twice as many passes and created 5 big chances. Sanchez created 6 big chances.

We won't have changed an awful lot yet, considering we've only had 1 game since last season and some training. Will take more time and more signings imo. Should hopefully play at a higher tempo though, and Wolves also like to attack at times, we'll get chances to counter just as they will.

Speaking within the context of having a B team we can use to give our first 11 a rest, Sanchez should be kept and played for one more season.
A front three of James, Sanchez and Greenwood, could be very good in some of the cup competitions.
If I recall we didn’t struggle to break Wolves down in the league game under Ole, just to actually put the ball in the back of the net. Even with ten men I’m not sure how we lost that game. The FA Cup game was an embarrassment, however.

Some of the vitriol aimed at Lingard on this site is embarassing. He always puts a shift in, makes great runs that create space for others, scores some important goals. His form was bad when he came back from injury last season but he was one of the star performers in Ole's initial run. He may be a bit of an a*** on twitter but he is important part of the squad.
What's made our club bad is the superstars who think that getting the contract means job done and the trend of buying for the name, rather than the problem the player will solve.
