Just listening to Mr Boycott - he says 'You can't win a match when you're in the pavilion. They're hopeless up front!'. He puts the blame on poor defence and poor tactics - says the batsmen are playing 20/20 tactics instead of settling in and grinding the bowlers down. Michael Vaughan says poor shot selection. Can't fault any of that.

I find it extraordinary that such talented players can’t tone their game down for test cricket. The batting coach should challenge Roy to ape boycott until he gets to 50, you have all day to bat occupy the crease.

Moeen was dropped lets hope he doesn't play for England again. let get on with his life.

As for a good pool of players. Its laughable. they aint good enough. The standard of county cricket is awful

No one out there seems to want to dig in on a regular basis. There's been the odd occasion when a player or 2 has dug in for a session or 2 but it's just embarrassing how often the team folds.

Playing for England and then being dropped seems to destroy players as well and it's hard to work out why. Look at Hameed, hasn't been able to score enough runs even for the Lancashire second XI so at 22, he's been released. He looked a proper test player and now his career might be over. I'm sure another county will take a punt on him but we need more batsman with the patience of Hameed (when he first burst on the scene).

Roy is the future of England. Have patience lads.

Well, that’s for you to work out

Making Root captain was a big mistake, his batting has gradually deteriorated ever since, he was supposed to be up there with Smith & Kohli at one point but is no longer in the same class and hasn't been for a while. Let your best batsman just focus on his batting, Smith has gotten even better (if that was even possible) now that Paine is test captain and he's fully focused on the batting.

Funnily enough I really believed we would do it even before we started our innings yesterday, we were due a proper test-match batting performance and all of our players are rising to the individual battles now between bat and ball / with the bowlers.

We're not there yet but well done Root for getting us back into this test match and very unlucky with the dismissal, was really hoping he'd go onto convert a 100. Roy was also unlucky, he was playing better and leaving the ball well then dismissed by an outstanding ball.

Shame about those 2 wickets falling so quickly

I'm sick of him going up for everything.

I was really confident we would see it through but very nervous now and hate to say it but 88 feels a very long way away, if Stokes goes it's surely all over =(

Can't believe the stupid way we lost Buttler and what was Woakes doing playing that drive, just needed to survive and stay in with Stokes, at least until he was in himself.
