Ole has all the right intentions but not a single clout, in my view.
It's all good and promote internally but the guy has hardly any previous record in managing in the premier league for a top club - ok, that club is in decline right now,
We didn’t really have any other standout options. He did very well in the interim role and deserved a chance. He’s made some good decisions and there’s only so much he can do. We’re a pretty mediocre side now, that’s just the reality of it, and any manager would struggle to get us to top four. That’s not to say we can’t or won’t do it. Solskjaer deserves a chance to try and even if he doesn’t, the right thing to do might be to continue with him if certain other things are clearly in progress.

Good post, I agree with a lot of that.
If you gave him until the end of the season though, would you still appoint him permanently? I wouldn’t based on the form.
He looks so tactically inept and would probably benefit from having a better back room team
If we lose at home to Leicester all hell will break loose.
The timing of the appointment was a major problem. Would Ed, or you as fans wanted him to get the job at the end of the season if results had been the exact same?
Having rio and neville saying give him whatever he wants defo didn't help.
Reality is he's a rookie doing one of the toughest jobs in football. United isn't a job where you learn your trade the intensity of the job doesn't allow it.
You don't make the head of accounts ceo cause he had a good financial quarter.

He is likely to be naive tactically at this level. His tactics might look better if we had a bit more cutting edge. A quality no. 10 and we could have had a much better start. It’s what I meant by saying he can only do so much. If Rashford or Pogba hit form, or even a younger player like Pereira enters a purple patch, things could look a lot rosier.
Our tactics will look good on the break but we don’t have a lock-picker other games.
I want top four this season, of course, but I hope he criteria for judging Solskjær’s success go further and include:
- A couple of younger players establishing themselves as genuine and worthy first XI players
- Good morale in the camp.
- A recognisable style of play that suits our players and involves pace and a desire to score more than one goal a game.
One of the cups would not go amiss either
Totally agree with Clockwork Red. We have tried with quality managers and dare i say it, a better squad.
Spent big money.
So even though they haven’t come out and say it, Utd are in full rebuild mode.
Sure the Media and the ‘Now Now’ fans won’t have the patience for it. But Utd are ripping it up, and to me that says at a least a 4 window fix. To get the team totally right. As long as they scout right.
To me Utds future looks good, with or without Ole.
But Ole has to be given the chance, and we’ll just strap in.. gonna be bumpy.
Let's just give this a bit of time shall we.
My only issue so far this season is letting Smalling go.
The defeat to palace was down to two criminal individual errors (Lindelof and de Gea), and the last draw showed up Lindelof's weakness again.
While we don't quite have a rhythm to our play yet I think people are only analyzing the results and not the whole game.
My only worry is how the negative results and off field issues (Twitter nonsense and the like) might impact confidence....

I guess I do have one other issue... Playing Pereira. Like many I saw some talent there and wanted it given a chance. He's been given the chance and shown he's not up to snuff, so Ole needs to drop that ASAP
Persisting with the 4231 is a bit weird ngl
The team and club requires an entire rebuild. Ole is doing that, we may miss out on top 4 or even top 6 this season but this is not a one window fix. I'm hopeful that the club finally recognise that there are no quick solutions to this and they give him time.
He does have a vision of how he wants to play. He doesn't have the quality to do it successfully yet. We're not challenging for a few years at least. As fans we should give him time to build. It'll be a long season.
I'm curious though as to what standard should Ole be judged against. if it's against Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea then he is pretty much in and around that level for the moment points wise anyway.

Ha ha I wish we still did Fergie time
I will judge Ole form this season onward rather than last season. Even then I will give him some time to rebuild the squad too, as he has done well so far for me in the market.
The most important thing for me at the moment is that we rebuild the squad with the right players. Ole seems to be doing that so far and getting rid of the deadwood, whilst giving the youngsters a chance. Hopefully he can bring some trophies during his time in charge. but even if he doesn't, his time at the club might still be judged a success if he leaves behind a squad in good shape.
Platinum season ticket holder my seat even has my name on it

You have a seat that says 'd!clhead'?
I think the club are doing a good job showing they can unload costs of the wage bill the question is are they going to back Ole to load them back in again and to what extent and how quickly starting from January where there is even less value in the market than ever.
The unbelievable consistency of City and Liverpool is making things look worse than they probably are, in years past we were quite often inconsistent in the first few games then found form and went on a roll but these days a couple of draws and a defeat and your out of it. As Mumbai mentioned compared to the rest there doesn’t seem much in it.

No that must be yours if you have actually have one tw*t
There’s two directions it might go though ..
1) Manager makes the right decisions and fans see something very positive happening and the club see something very positive happening and all are agreed that unless it’s a ridiculous position like bottom half of the table he will deserve to keep the good work going
2) Manager makes poor decisions like bringing on Lingard before Greenwood or playing Pogba in the 2 further back etc and results go badly and bit by bit, week by week faith in him disappears and the realisation that he always was a punt becomes more and more clear and he leaves and someone available like Allegri or other and we go for them.
It could go either way but right now it’s veering towards option two but he could very easily start going to option one and if that happens it will be a good thing. 3 very tough league games coming up (Leicester, West Ham and Arsenal) and if the mistakes keep happening and the results are bad I feel more and more faith in him will begin to chip away and the club might have to act at some point.
UTD fans:
Let's give him some time, the team needs some major work and this rebuild will take years and several transfer windows, especially with Ed doing the deals.
Also UTD fans:
When I said give him some time, I meant one window and then four games to get it right
