Too early. Plus Willian looks to be a worldie in training so there’s always that
He’s not even not making the bench tonight
The squad is highly competitive tbf. Probably struggling to adapt to the league atm. He’s a talented player, I am sure he’ll be given plenty of opportunities to prove himself, just need to take them when given.
Seems odd considering he was impressive against us in Super cup.
It can only be based on what he does or doesn't do in training - which we don't see. I think he does have a lot of talent, but it might take a while to get used to playing in England. As it happens, we are rich in attacking midfield players/wingers this year, so that makes things even tougher for him. He's going to have to show his character.
I suspect there's tactical elements to this. From what I can gather from the team selections, Lampard's favoring attackers who naturally stay high up the pitch to make the high press easier for the squad to digest - believe it's why he picked Barkley & Mount together in the 433 last weekend. It's also why Mount's untouchable because he's capable to drifting in and out without it affecting his ability to press.
Pulisic is the Hazard mold of wide attacker. He likes the option to start deep and break through zones which unbalances the team out of possession. It's a Sarri/CHO thing, and just like that I'm sure he'll break into the team once (A) he adapts, or (B) the team as a whole become comfortable with the high press.
That opinion's paper thin btw. It's off the strength of watching us twice this season, observing the team selections and watching Pulisic clips on YouTube.
Could be utter BS
Two average (to say the least) performances from our wingers, but Willian has grabbed two decisive goal, albeit one deflected. This has shown frank to be correct in his choices. But I hope he isn’t isolating Pulisic as, shown by Pedro and Willian’s goal records. The goals will dry up and we will need Pulisic.
The experience players like alonso, Willian and azpi bring is great but when they are on the pitch, due to their lack of versatility and ability to change to how frank wants us to play, they are a weakness. Good to have but we need to slowly ebb them out.
Tactics tonight starting with a 3 4 3 ere never going to favour Pulisic. It seems CHO is ahead of him as a winger. His best chance of selection is if we play 4 4 2
He does come across a bit of a weapon yes
The problem Pulisic has is that he's not going to get in ahead of Mount or CHO and is therefore fighting with Willian and Pedro for the back-up places. That's his level at the moment, he's not as good as Pedro or Willian but he can improve!
I haven't seen enough of pulisic to even rate how good he is tbh Eric.
Willian has been a good player for us, as has pedro in parts, so is tried and tested. CHO has obviously had a big fanfare around him too, and mount has been imo our best player this season.
Going to have to show some real character to break into the team.
I don't think it's a case of Lamps favouring English youth over an American youth. Pulisic was getting starts and chances at the beginning of the season but just didn't take them well enough and was too often fairly anonymous in games he featured in. A shame considering he looked good in preseason.
If he keeps his head down, stops blabbing to the media about not playing and works very hard in training then I'm sure there will be more chances. But no player has a god given right to play regardless of their price tag and we have a lot of competition in wide areas, especially with Hudson-Odoi coming back now.
yeah pretty spot on there mate
