If we sign a new left back, we won't have to worry about our back 5 for a very long time
-----------------
Being completely honest I'm not too sure about Wan-Bissaka yet either
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I was thinking the same. He looks solid defending - like Shaw but going forward he does look poor. I understand defending is the most important thing so he’s hardly a big problem and is obviously prefer him there over our other options but if we have a manager who wants our width to be provided by full backs I really can’t see him as a good option
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Facking hell.

Been at the club for what, four months? And you’re writing him off already.

It’s sheer stupidity, especially considering how many United players from years gone by have had less than convincing starts to their career at the club but gone onto be brilliant.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You’d more than likely know by now if he was going to become a very good attacking full back. He doesn’t seem to have it in his locker. Doesn’t mean he’s anywhere near a flop or he should be sold but he might not actually ever be a TAA or even a Walker
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Weapons grade horse sheite.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

So you think you can teach players to become very good attacking fullbacks if they haven’t already become one by 21/22?

Kyle Walker wasn’t Kyle Walker at AWB’d age. His attacking ability is a concern, especially on the immediate impact on the team - a concern I highlighted before we signed him - but it’s an area that he can still develop. I do think it’s unlikely he’ll ever be as good as TAA is going forward, but I think you’re underestimating just how good he is going forward - the are very few right backs in the history of the game that have posted the attacking numbers that TAA is - so it’s a bit unfair to write him off as an attacking full back on the basis of comparing him to a bit of a freak in TAA.

Darren, to be fair, at 22 Walker was a much better attacker than AWB is.

I hope he can improve but it’s an immediate concern that he can’t attack as our right sided attacker comes inside so much leaving so much space free when AWB isn’t attacking

I feel if we got a player like Sancho (or a realistic option) AWBs attacking issues wouldn’t be as much of an issue

If we have such defensive full backs then surely that should allow us to have two attacking midfielders in front of a sitter?

Not really, Walker was pretty useless until Pochettino went to Spurs. I agree it’s an immediate concern, however. Our right hand side hasn’t offered any attacking threat for years. So we sign a right back that is weak there and don’t sign a right winger.

Classic United 😂

Wasn’t he originally a winger which makes the fact he’s poor offensively seem a little odd? It’s like he took the Valencia route into how to become a FB.

The creativity doesn't have to come from wide/full back does it? If we can get creative players in midfield our defensive defence, in theory, should give us a platform. Maybe they're not Carlos and Cafu but mo reason why our full backs can't offer running off the ball overlapping.

Rashford was originally a winger and he’s poor offensively.

What make me laugh about this situation is that we signed him and Dalot when we could have signed Ricardo Periera from Porto for half the price.

Yeah, Pereira looks good. And Hakimi at Dortmund is great going forward

Yeah, deffo. It would be great to have more attacking full backs but it’s not such an issue if we have creativity centrally and natural width from actual wingers. But right now we have none of those

What we have is a manager who can only really activate his tactical plan once the opposition over commits - which is so painfully obvious opposition managers just sit back and frustrate us

posted on 8/10/19

Thing is Ole does want the full backs to attack. It’s just that his options are Young, Shaw, AWB and Dalot. His options are limited.

posted on 8/10/19

One tactic which annoys me is getting Young to take corners from both sides. Especially as we conceded from one of our corners on Sunday. Very dangerous having a full back be on both sides of the pitch for corners

posted on 8/10/19

The one question mark that hung over AWB at Palace was his ability in the final third.

Defensively he's excellent for his age and at Palace he was actually pretty good at carrying the ball forward and getting into threatening positions however that side of his game hasn't been on display as much for us and he has been quite sloppy at times. It's not even been 4 months ffs.

posted on 8/10/19

Yeah and Young can’t even cross, ffs.

-----------------------------------------------

Don't.

I've been going over this in my head since early last summer.

This is a comment I made online on 16th May 2018.

"A steal at £25 million. Ricardo Pereira would improve us nevermind Leicester. Strange that there aren't any bigger clubs making a move for him. We'll probably sign somebody no better for nearly double the price."

posted on 8/10/19

Those crosses make me so angry.

TRS, I’m sure I read a stat that AWB had completed the most dribbles by a full back or something. We’ve already ruined his technique.

posted on 8/10/19

That was a good call.

The most amazing thing about it is that we signed Dalot from the same club that owned Periera.

I know!

We also had a manager at the time who's known for preferring the more tried and tested option instead of somebody so young who'd played very little first team football.

It seriously boggles the mind.
