Shinji, of course he could grow into the role. He’s an interesting option to look at, no doubt. But I was just questioning the assertion he’s a perfect fit. Of course, as long as Ed Woodward is doing what he’s doing there’s no such thing. But someone that has experience working at a buying club rather than a selling club would perhaps be more beneficial.
Not doubting this man's credibility, he sounds like a refreshing change.
But how would a sporting director at Lile (for example) know a lot of the internal struggles at a club like United?

What are these internal struggles exactly?

You should google stuff I reckon.
A real Sporting Director at the club would be Ed Woodward's arch nemesis.
If this strategy was ever to be properly implemented, then the Glazers would have to override Ed's influence in transfer activity at the club.
Though i have no faith as the owners don't care.

So you want a football director (head scout essentially) to go over the execs head straight to the owners, who back Ed?
A dof isnt a head scout ffs
The thing is, if Ed Woodward had a sporting director with some power and influence at the club, it’d end making him look better in the long run. Not just because it’d increase the chances of the club being successful, but also because it’d further blur the lines between who’s making the decisions on transfers.
There are already plenty of morons that try to deflect blame from the ownership, and Woodward, within the footballing world and our fanbase. It’d give Woodward even more reason to deflect blame for poor performances on the pitch. If it works out, however, he can revel in the glory that the on pitch success is because of him.

I want a footballing brain who knows what is best for the club. And then for Ed to concentrate on the negotiating.
We would still often overpay for players/wages because we're cash cow United and because of Ed's idiotic expenditure planning. But given time, we should curb this.
One step at a time.

I doubt he’d get the message, he obviously gets a weird kick out of it. But yeah, it’s a good solution to stop him ruining every single article.
