I love cars Babyen, I got bored of my Ibiza probably six months after I got it. I've always got my eyes on a new motor, they're just beautiful inventions. Make the most of them before they all go robotic and electric I say.

I like cars. I do enjoy driving them. It’s just that a car would be a luxury for me at the moment. I need a motor that does things a car just can’t do. Off roading, lugging wood, pulling trailers, massive capacity to carry loads like camping gear etc. I drive the wife’s car now and again (Hyundai i30), and it’s ok. Not a drivers car.
My son is looking for a car at the moment. Bless him, turns 16 soon(ish) and has already saved up enough to get his first car. So actively looking to get something that is quite reliable and cheap for his first ride.

each to their own mate. You've got a family and live outside of the city. It's different for me, I'm still at home and live in the capital. I use my car for work and socialising rather then transporting stuff across. When I get a bit older I'll probably find cars a luxury than a necessity too.

Days of getting a car and running it down are long gone now. Don't make the cars like they used to. Not as easy to maintain like older cars. Too many electronics, too many dashboard lights. Even changing a bulb is a pain in the backside now. Getting parts for a German car is too expensive.

Best bet now is get new on lease, enjoy it and then hand it back and get another car.

Disagree. Have family and friends in the garage trade, so can afford to do running maintenance. Not for everyone though I agree.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Even your local garage struggle now with new dealer bespoke technology.

Arab, how do you find your Seat? Out here it’s all that people have along with Golfs and Minis. I know it’s basically a Golf but any good?

Did you see that offer, Kash? £210 on the new 1 series for 48 months is deceee

Quite decent for a brand new shape beemer but goes up slightly as you will not be doing 5k miles a year. Engine is small but if you don't mind that then its a fair deal.

To a degree. Depending on age and make of vehicle.
I do find it harder to keep running vehicles the way I’m used to, and will probably find myself changing motors more often than I wish in the future.

I have the Ibiza FR which is sort of equivalent to the Polo, it's the Leon which is the Golf's competitor despite being owned by the same brand.

It's a very nippy car, looks great from the outside and the infotainment is very good too. Great boot space and it's very spacious at the back compared to the Polo. Does 115bhp on a 1 litre and has a few other toys with it. Only downside is it's cheap plastic galore on the dash and there is no arm rest.

I went on the BMW website the other day and they’ve got lots of used 3 series for decent monthly prices. I don’t want a diesel though, prefer a petrol.

The 2 litre diesels pull like trains, very economical on the motorway too

Genuinely thinking of getting the electric one of those. Looks amazing and basically a sexier version of the i3

Arab I think you should take the plunge and go for a 3 series, you know it makes sense.

I would want the new 3 series and the cheapest on PCP is about £390 a month, that's far too much for me. Not to mention the stupid 6k deposit they want on top.

Think you need to consider it though Arab.

Seems quite steep for me as well but I’ve saved up a bit of late so will see what I can do.

That link to the lease website I provided has them going for about £300 quid and above which is a tad cheaper than BMW.

Initial rental can be covered by a bank loan too, with low interest you won’t have to pay too much back on top.

I'm 42 and have only ever owned two cars Babyen. I had a Sierra for 18 months in the early 2000s and my Mini since the day after United ended Arsenal's unbeaten run in 2004! I didn't have a car of my own until I was 25 as I had no need as work was only 2 mins walk away then and my parents' car was nearly always available to borrow. Not having my own car saved me a load of money!
