You make a good point Flash, hopefully you're right and that we actually buy suitable players that Frank actually wants as opposed to this scattergun approach to transfers that the club have taken for too long with some awful buys like Morata and Bakayoko.
Absolutely right.
I'm not going to fully buy into this Lampard/youth thing until after our first transfer window. The type of business conducted will tell us if Marina and co are as on board with this direction as the players and fans are, if they're not we're all wasting our time.
No more Emerson's, Drinkwater's, Giroud's, Batshuayi's, etc... as well as some of those players have done they represent the exact opposite of what'll benefit this project going forward. Same goes for the massive superstar names on inflated wages (Neymar, Bale, etc...), totally conflicts. We need to be looking at ready made first team players aged between 20-26 and trust in our academy to fill in the blanks. Guys like Sancho & Dybala are the archetypes.
The other thing it may have done is allowed Lampard and the players more freedom and lifted some pressure (very important for some young players in particular).
The pressure was reduced as most people expected you to struggle with the ban and losing your best player.
The fact Lampard has got things looking up so quickly renders this a non issue but I thought he'd be allowed more time than most a Chelsea manager.
A grace period at the start, then a second grace period post ban ending allowing him more time to implement a strategy without the immediate pressure of facing Roman's axe.

Those four signings share little alike in their quality, age, potential value for money, and why they were signed. And for Giroud, Emerson and maybe even Bats very harsh to say they represent our poor transfer choice in the last few years, much better examples that could be given. Emerson is/was relatively cheap, has potential, and was genuinely good for Roma and for us. Giroud has been exactly what he was signed for, and was cheap. Batshuayi for a squad player is fine. Every successful recruiting team makes signings like these.
I've long said that with the quality we have had coming through the academy, that any signings made should only be of the highest quality that can go straight into the side and be capable of making the difference.
Buying of squad players for 30/40m that are average should hopefully be a thing of the past and those places be made available for academy players where we have lads of the required quality available and ready.

What they share is being bought on the premise of padding the squad and taking away from the budget at the expense of a youth player doing the same job. I'm not saying they were bad signings at the time, nor that they've not been successes in their own way, but they represent the sort of business that'll conflict with this project.
It's the difference between signing a top quality creative CM next summer, or a meddling level one for 30-35mil when we've got Gilmour who'd fill that exact role. It's about what the mentality is.
Or to be even more precise, what Brummie said
Completely agree OP.
This Chelsea side proves two things:
- those Chelsea fans who used to defend the club’s approach to youth development were wrong.
- those clubs not currently integrating youth into their team are lazy and/or their manager is just not that good at developing youngsters.

No I want us to by him 😂
The transfer ban itself isn't the silver bullet. You still have to have staff/management who want to use the young players.
Delivery is what counts!
Franks message across to the players has been clear, consistent and concise...from day he took over up until now.
A1 at keeping every squad member in line and on their toes.
I don't have such worries in the transfer market should we dip into the market in the future, with Frank (current management) in control.

I don't understand how fans that defended our approach to youth development are wrong, surely they have been proved right, the 2nd point the club have certainly been guilty of and criticised by the fans for it.
For evidence and case in point of how much control Frank already has....see David Luiz.
Stamped his authority on said player, who happened to be a Roman favourite (bent-over backwards to give Luiz the unprecedented 2-year contract he desired, breaking the policy).
Disposing of probably the biggest character in Luiz very quickly.
Luiz departure was as a result of his inherent belief in young players.
Inherent belief which no other manager would have shown them (or even considered) amongst all the managers we've had in the Roman era (unparalleled).
This is why I've always maintained that the main lack of youth integration has only ever been inherent manager problems.
