lol no way was that a foul on Blind. Blind cuts him off and Pulisic who i think it was gets blocked and falls to the the ground and there's a tangle of legs. Looks more of a foul on Pulisic.

The entire phase in which 2 Ajax players got sent off and they conceded a penalty was the most disgraceful lack of common sense I've seen in a long time from match officials at that level. Staggering incompetence.

Why wouldn’t they both be sent off though? Blind fouled two players and Veltman handled a shot on target, which these days is a yellow.

Referees can allow play on and still go back and punish previous fouls.

So why was it ,that the Dutch commentator agreed that the referee did the right thing, Blind was already on a yellow and got silly again, same with the other player ,or is it all double Dutch to you ?

Was the most Bakayoko thing I've ever seen not by the man himself. Goes on a nice little dribble, beating players who aren't putting in tackles, getting excited does a trick or two, then telegraphs exactly where he's putting it (in the crowd) with his horrendous technique

Where did I not know the players involved? You can watch the entire sequence here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGqvSRg1hog
Jorginho flicked a ball past Blind and Blind got his body between (I'd say legally, but if a foul was given here - without a yellow - I'd have no complaints). Jorginho went down moaning at the ref and clearly tripped Blind who fell over, then made the desperate lunge at Abraham having been impeded and upended by Jorginho's foul. CHO picked up the pieces and blasted a shot at Veltman's arm who didn't have time to get his hand (in its perfectly natural position by his side) out of the way. Which player involved did I get wrong in my earlier comments?

The common sense thing to do for any ref at their discretion even if going to give the soft penalty was not to create the ludicrous triple jeopardy of awarding a pen and sending off 2 players all within the same phase of play that was not even a clear goal-scoring opportunity.

Funny. The English commentators on the broadcast I watched it on thought the ref was naive. I don't know which Dutch commentator you're talking about and it makes no difference to my interpretation of the events.

Wow, I misidentified one of teh 5 players involved I was talking about in the incident and you better identified your own player. You're a certified mastermind of the game for that wizardry. Genius stuff.
So because I assumed the midget that brought down Blind was Jorginho, that inconsequential pedantry is somehow supposed to change the substance of the point I was making right?

Blind's red card was justified, glad the referee gave it despite giving advantage + penalty.

Penalty was shady (that "deliberate handball" rule needs to be removed, far too subjective), second yellow for the handball was harsh.

Azpl's disallowed goal was shady, but consistent considering the penalty was given.

All in all considering our history of dodgy officiating against us in this competition we're due a game like this where we get the benefit, a few more than this one tbh.

Except there were other incidents where Blind should have been cautioned, for that particular incident that got him sent off, he should never have been in that position. Once the ref didn't give a foul to Pulisic when Blind blocked him off in that build-up ( a routine midfield contact foul that wouldn't have warranted a yellow), the ref had to penalize Pulisic for tripping Blind as he went down. HAD TO. Blind after being impeded found himself desperately lunging at Abraham for a ball he would have easily been in control of if he hadn't been brought down. That decision was even more BS than the daft second yellow for that penalty.

I'd say the handball rules are mostly fair. If it's a clear goal scoring opportunity blocked by an arm (like a player who stops the ball on the line with his arm), I'd agree it shouldn't matter if the handball is deliberate or not. Else, it's only fair to recognize that except defenders cut off their arms, sometimes it's impossible to avoid a handball. Veltman did nothing wrong for that handball. His arms were right where they should be by his side in a perfectly natural position (you shouldn't have to clasp your hands behind your back) and he didn't have any time to get it out of the way of the shot. He was unlucky to concede the penalty - which the ref then took into the territory of stupid by also giving the 2nd yellow even after the feckwit had just awarded a pen and sent off Blind. The ref was an idiot - plain and simple.

It gives the impression you didn’t actually watch the game and are just going off other people’s accounts. Blind wasn’t fouled anyway.

What a feckin utterly pointless debate Honestly why does an Arsenal fan even give such a feck to keep posting about what amounts to a difference in opinion on a match officials decision ? Strange
